Re: “Oakland Archivist Revives 1917 Feminist Film

Hey, everyone should nominate this film to the National Film Registry! That way, we can guarantee that the government will see to it that it doesn't get lost again.

Re: “Oakland Archivist Revives 1917 Feminist Film

This Marxist-fascist film reference is good and points to the social confusion within East Coast Cities, Ivy Schools and Euro cities. And across all media genre. For instance, the 1925 best seller was An American Tragedy promoting baby killings while simultaneously setting up the Christian Church as scapegoat. 1913 gave us the international Federal Reserve and a little later the income tax slave system. Wilson further added the problem of WWI which caused Lenin and Trotsky to enter Russia with American gold to create the first Marxist-fascist state that cause world conflict and divisions and deaths for decades. All these social principles are in Communist Manifesto at the end of Chapter 1. The time precursor was around Andrew Jackson's time period.

This film is an excellent find. Thank you!

Terrific news, though I think the author meant to write "need to scan each individual FRAME digitally". Can't wait to see this film!

"Professors, she said, should also be prepared to intervene when heated debates transform classes into racially charged environments:"

And do what?

Well, did she?

Re: “Nia Imara Captures the Faces of Oakland's Housing Crisis

Outstanding article, and a amazing young gifted Artist. Photos always classify 1,000 words to a picture. Yet you have incorporated words along with your art, simply amazing. Continue to express your truth, for the community and all peoples. Thank you for sharing the love.

Re: “An Identity Crisis at Mills College

While it might be easy on the face of it to consider Book Arts (related to my work, through which I have come to know and admire Prof. Walkup) and Dance (my son's college major) marginal. I suspect that these programs' graduates are employed in satisfying work and that the small size and accountability of programs such as these are major contributions to student satisfaction and, therefore, retention. I suspect that there are many other, proven ways for students of data science and economics to get their training in California. Mills's dance and book arts programs are unique and a drawing card. Someone has given the administration bad advice.

Re: “An Identity Crisis at Mills College

I am parent of a child who graduated from Mills College, as well as chair of the MFA in Writing Program at California College of the Arts, where we have a small book arts program begun by the great Betsy Davids. Her retirement left us with a quarter-time instructor who teaches in other programs and many fewer students who take advantage of the one course we can offer every year. I completely support the great artist Kathy Walkup's remarkable years doing this work. Thank you for the article. Organize students, organize CW faculty to sustain this important program. Keep BOOK ARTS! I am retired, a former artist in the book printing Industry.

I believe it is extremely important to offer this program not eliminate it.

It is important to learn the manual skills involved to create a book to fully appreciate the power of books in the past as well as the continuing potential of books as tools for learning; equal to electronic media!
