Re: “Radical Brownies: The Most Inspiring Young Women You've Ever Seen

Scouting in the US has a lot to atone for. I certainly welcome alternative scouting movements like the Radical Brownies, that break with the past. I understand the idea behind this approach, but prefer a traditional scouting program that is inclusive and co-ed. Gender segregated scouting is increasingly rare around the world, and should be here as well. EBE should do a profile of the 23rd Oaklanders scout group, the biggest/strongest BPSA group in California.

Re: “Radical Brownies: The Most Inspiring Young Women You've Ever Seen

So when is the unit on "Radical Abortion" the decimation of 11% of the black population? Or how about the "Radical Truth" unit where statistics about how many blacks are victimized by blacks versus how many are victimized by white police officers! This is a disgrace and I hope the Girl Scouts of America use the full force of the law to prevent the use of their name "brownies" and their uniforms by this group of hate and division. The sad truth is though that the GSA is so progressively liberal they'll fall into the 'white guilt' BS and allow this garbage to continue.

So because it's not your point of view , then it's child abuse . I agree with the girls.

"Mike Brown. He was shot because he didn’t do nothing. Only the police officer shot him because of his skin color.”

This is what one of the girl scouts said at a community meeting. This is what they are being taught. This is child abuse. These kids don't even have a chance to develop their own point of view.

Re: “Artists Create Two-Way Video Portal for Oaklanders to Meet Their Neighbors

"buffered by increasing racial and economic segregation that allows for erasure of difference. It has happened all over, but especially in Oakland."

I'm continually dismayed at how much bu__sh__ is perpetuated about Oakland especially by people who claim to be wanting to protect and nurture this wonderful place. It's not especially happening in Oakland -Oakland is the single most integrated city in the United States.

Re: “Artists Create Two-Way Video Portal for Oaklanders to Meet Their Neighbors

"Cranky Rockridge residents were bothered by the unexplained noise, and pedestrians in East Oakland were wary of the increased surveillance..."

This alone is a great summary of the differences between these neighborhoods.

Re: “Artists Create Two-Way Video Portal for Oaklanders to Meet Their Neighbors

Hello,
Maybe because the screens are important as it is and there is nothing that can be compared with the video os one big and one small as the quality can be managed. Also the video can be used in a good chat as the SAM and http://www.videochatfun.com/ confimed it.
Cheers.

Re: “The Sexism of the Theater World

3Girls Theatre is another (new) local company working on this problem. Their whole mission revolves around putting work by women onstage.

Re: “The Sexism of the Theater World

About 80% of the statue awards, given by BayAreaDanceWatch, go to women – about the same percentage breakdown of female local dancers performing in SF Bay dance scene. Some of the awards are for theater and acting as well. We are especially happy about that 80% because most of the large dance companies in the US are run by men. So we’re doing our small part to help make up for that unevenness on the national scene by doing it here in the local scene. Most of the awards are given out at our annual event & our third one is this Jan 25th in SF entitled: LiveBlessay 2014 – An Evening Affair. One final note - BADw tried to award both actor/actress from Shotgun Players Bonnie & Clyde - but because they were out of the country last year we could not get it arranged. The play was that good & it had the best blending of multi-media with live performances I've ever seen.... BRAVEE to all there.... Jim Tobin, BADw....
