Re: “Little White Lies

This was SO BORING! Avoid at all costs. The handsomest actor is immobilized in a hospital bed the whole time, buried under a tone of make up.

Re: “Our Idiot Brother

It's painful to watch a bunch of assholes. The movie consists of a bunch of assholes and one naive nice guy. The assholes mistreat the nice guy and the nice guy suffers but it all ends happily ever after. Painful, and boring, too...

Re: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2: 3D

Wow, I think I like the harsh negative critics better than this... whatever this is you wrote. You think it's the weakest entry in the series? Fine (although I absolutely do NOT agree with you and would love to angrily rant to you why), but honestly, you're a critic, review like a critic! Where's your evidence it's the weakest entry in the series? I'm a 14 year old teenager and even I wrote a better review in my website than you!

Re: “Somewhere

I wish the critic would give some practical information and say where we can watch this film in the East Bay. There is nothing more frustrating than wanting to see a film but not being able to see it. Since this is the East Bay Express, it seems like the subject matter should be about something in the East Bay. All I can find is a movie time in a San Francisco theater. I wish the critic would say which dates it's coming to an East Bay theater. Thanks.

Re: “Casino Jack

How on earth did Kevin Spacey, one of the best actors we have, get roped into this loser of a film? I was so excited to see it that I didn't even want to wait until it hit the East Bay and I traipsed across the bridge to the Embarcardero. I sat in anticipation for the whole couple of hours, waiting for the feeling that I was enjoying it. I never did. The movie never took off. No matter how well-done, there's just something off kilter about it, and not in a good way. It's hard to pinpoint the problem, or problems.

Terrible, terrible, utterly atrocious movie.

Re: “The Next Three Days

This is one of the worst pieces of trash I've ever seen. I've lost all confidence in Kelly Vance. It is unbelievable from start to finish and gets laughably worse over its unfortunately long running length. And it's violent, unncessarily. And we don't care about the characters. And there's no reason for its existence, either in the story or any sort of concept above that. It's simple trash and poorly done trash at that. On top of that the scenes that are supposed to be subtle (the original murder), meant to be nuanced (I guess), are simply confusing. For a better of review of this see the Chron or the CSM. It sucks bigtime.

Re: “Inception

nolan is overrated. memento is overrated. the dark knight is overrated.
that being said- leonardo is starting to look old. gonna have to start calling him leonard dicaprio. joseph gordon levitt was bad ass, and i now want to take ellen page out for ice cream. she was insufferable until i realized how sexy she is just now. juno is garbage, fyi.
but i digress. due to the success of inception we will be forced to suffer through more big budget unnecessarily self indulgent god awful rotten cinema. directed by that opiate for the masses of asses, nolan.

give me my money back. please.

Re: “Low-Level Cops Facing Punishment in East Bay Sex Crimes Scandal

Let me start off by saying I am pro-law enforcement. That being said, I was troubled by this story. I'd say most cops, no matter the department, are good people. There's no way you can convince me of anything else. Repeated stories of misconduct understandably make people question their faith, but I'll stand firm in mine. Anything that is presented as systematic, definitely starts at the top. The low-level boots on the ground, unfortunately suffer the brunt of the consequences. Case and point, but totally unrelated, WELLS FARGO!! To whom much is given, much is required. Law enforcement will have to find a way, QUICKLY, to meet the requirements of those who are starting to hold them accountable. "Because I said so," is no longer going to cut it. Cops across the board will have to deal with the ill-consequences and misperceptions.

Why is anyone paying an 'independent' court monitor if he cannot follow unacceptable behavior under his nose???

Re: “Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson Hit in Face with Pie at Event, Assaults Protester in 'Bloody' Scene

I'm simply at a loss parenthetically not surprised by the anti black comments... Why do some find their best response is to say Go Back You Africa? That's easy to say Mr. Mertz... Let's see Poland is it, yes that's the origin of your name. Holocaust right? Your people fled, right? Ummmm... I'm guessing you're angry by now as you should be because that was a horrible act against humanity and America help Save and continues to support you by honoring those who died and those who survived. But your people fled to a country built on the backs of Slaves who didn't ask to come nor wanted to or NEEDED to like yours. So by your logic let's all return from whence we can and give the Indiana their land back... Dumbass. As far as the sexual applications, Johnson should have never permitted himself to be in a place of probability but in this country we ALL are innocent until proven guilty. Don't get upset when the law of justice actually works for a non-white. Lastly, yes he's a public official, but first he's a man. I CERTAINLY doubt any man of any public office, or a simple husband, father etc. would not punch a person who has escalated from heckling to physical assault. If any of you are willing to eat his pie.... Then go get some in your face.

Re: “Soda Industry Spent $67 Million Fighting Sugar Taxes and Health Labels Since 2009

The product and political approach of Big Soda both have much in common with those of Big Tobacco. The playbook includes silence on the reality of the health-damaging effects of the product, distraction, deflection, and, of course, the ever-popular Big Lie.

Mr. O’Hara’s comment is insightful and relevant in that one of the memes that Big Soda has inserted by into the conversation is the canard that a soda tax is ineffective in achieving its goal of reducing sugary beverage consumption. Of course, big soda feels no need to be consistent in their arguments. Anything their strategists think may be effective will do just fine.

The particulars of the Big Soda campaign in Oakland feature wrapping themselves in the false flag of concern about the welfare of economically disadvantaged communities (who knew they cared about regressive taxes?). And then there’s the pushing of the recently manufactured “grocery tax” lie out of the mouths of recruited minority business owners (amazing how they all thought up the same argument!), with, of course, colorful contextual images of fresh fruit and so on.

Re: “Online Poll Attacks Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, Claims False Endorsements for Peggy Moore

The tactic of saying 'Kapalan has precided over Oakland while there is a widening income inequality' as though the very problem she has fought tirelessly to address is her fault starts of the Poll with very disappointing retoric. This kind of language I see in wider political spheres (Presidential and state elections) where the pointing out of the problem by people who have policies that will surely make it worse is a tactic to get people to vote for them. Disappointing and frustrating to see this happening on a local level and not true to an Oakland community ethos that many here appreciate and ascribe to. Makes me even more suspicious of Libby Scarf's motives also.
