Re: “Another Stingray Sighting in Lake Merritt!

I saw two dead ones today. One seemed older than the other. I also have pics.

I'm not much of a drinker, just the occasional bit of rum or gin. However, I will definitely gladly give you my money as opposed to Bev Mo.

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

More mindless drivel designed to fan flames of class warfare. BFD that the subsidized housing does not include a penthouse suite.

What a terrible thought that the "elites" that live there will need to pony up an even greater premium price to get the views. Should we give them more lower floors so that the elites pay less money for a pretty view and drive the total revenue and viability down?

I think Darwin cut his math and economics classes and spent his time learning magical thinking.

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

Another EBX article to stir the pot. Who gives a %^@$* where the units are ? If this was any other city in the USA there wouldn't be an option of affordable housing. Please EBX, try to stop fanning the flames.

Re: “New Oakland Police Chief Talks Cultural Change and Compassion for the Homeless

I would love to see a large ship, i.e. a retired cruise ship, parked in the turning basin and made available as a homeless shelter. The land will always be used up for more and more expensive property development projects, but our waterways could serve as a very good platform for safety and shelter. Who wants to work on that, and fund it?

Re: “City of Oakland Replaces Longstanding Coliseum-Oracle Board Members With Uber Lawyer, McElhaney

What is the point of enjoying Oakland and working to improve it, when the likes of Reid and McElhaney run it?

Wishing you success. Then hoping you and your family bring some of that success and expand in East Oakland. We could use some shops out this way too.

Re: “Another Stingray Sighting in Lake Merritt!

I've seen two in the last 15 days. Unfortunately both were also deceased.
I have two macabre photos, let me know if I should pass them along.

"...Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building..."

And ??? so ??? I'm glad that they're below market rate included- regardless of where they are.

I see NO problem with allowing those who are paying market rate to have the choice of the lot.

While nice, why MUST a developer contribute all of those "community benefit" projects. Heck... isn't the Mosswood center a city owned property. It's stipulations like this that has made it so difficult for things to get off the ground here in The 'Town

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

I see our New Mexico carpet bagger is waggling his finger again.

I love it. We have a hole on the ground that used to be an always full, effectivley useless parking lot that could be 400 living units... And that's not good enough for anyone.

We have people pouring into the area; people screaming about rising rent and ownership costs and others, including the carper baggers playing NIMBY (everything else is 2 or 3 stories... Cant we all chant together? No changes! I got mine!). I know! Lets build a wall around Oakland!

How about some solutions vs mindless criticism Darwin?

Re: “A Black-Owned, Woman-Owned Craft Bottle Shop Is Coming to Uptown Oakland

I love the black businesses. We need more. Growing up in Oakland I have watched them wither away. I'm glad yours is a beautiful bud. Hoping it blossoms into bouquet of bountiful blessings for you and yours.

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

Why is none of the money dedicated to transit improvements?? The very existence of this building derives from our recognition that we need to get more people using transit. So why not dedicate the impact fees to improving car-free access to Macarthur BART?

Neighborhood shuttles, enhanced bike facilities, expanded bike/ped access: any of these would help.

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

Also, Trying to "jam" them into the bottom quarter? Would they have more space if they were "jammed" in the top quarter? The units have the same amount of space no matter where they are in the building, quit trying to imply that the affordable units are somehow substandard or smaller because of the location within the building. Affordability is a premium, views are premium. Whether you like it or not, more expensive units are subsidizing the affordable ones, the way it should be.

Could have easily been the headline, "Developer insists affordable units having most convenient access to BART"

Re: “'Sanctuary State' Bill Moves Forward in California Senate

So all those that support what de Leon is advocating is willing to take the chance that your sisters, daughters, mothers, and/or grandmothers could possibly fall victim to these felons once released from prison to rape or be molested? Our communities are suffering enough with legal citizens committing terrible crimes onto our communities. Do you really think these felons are worth it? If any American were to do such a thing outside our country he or she would rot in prison.

Re: “Town Business: Developer Wants to Stick MacArthur BART Tower's Affordable Units Entirely in Bottom Quarter of Building

Victoria: the Planning Commission recently shared that they have approved over 15,000 residential units and yet less then 5% have actually come online.

In fact there are two projects approved and spec'd that are across the street from this project that are just that - approved, unbuilt, and now back up for sale builds.

Heck, THIS PROJECT has been approved since 2008 and McGrath has said numerous times he could've built the originally built project countless times in the years since it's been approved - he just didn't.

Pointing to the amount of time it takes a project to get approved as a means to demonstrate how woefully behind in building we are is shortsighted and wrongheaded.
