Re: “Why So Many Bisexual Men are Still in the Closet

I am a bi man, and I'm closeted. This article definitely touches on why. I have a few things to add though.

Earlier in life, for years after I figured out I was bi, I was closeted for the usual reasons. (I'm from the Midwest, which doesn't help.) But later in life, as I've grown and matured, I've stayed closeted by choice. For a few reasons.

I'm not bi-romantic. I'm straight romantic. I have absolutely no romantic attraction to men. I would never date a man. I don't even like kissing men. But I am definitely attracted to their bodies and personalities. Sexuality and attraction is truly a spectrum.

Because of that, "coming out" as bisexual for me feels more like revealing sexual history than something that's integral to who I am as a person. I don't really feel like I'm hiding more than anybody else who doesn't generally talk about their sexual history.

And, while this may sound like a cop-out, another reason I've never come out is that no one has ever asked or been interested. I would not lie if someone asked, but literally no one ever has. I'm fairly masculine, married, and have always dated women, so it's just assumed that I'm straight. (I've volunteered it to past girlfriends and my now-wife for obvious reasons.) If someone were interested, I would talk about it, but as the author touches on here, society doesn't really want to hear about it, so I don't talk about it.

That said, male bisexuality absolutely needs to be more visible and destigmatized. That's the only reason I've seriously considered "coming out."

Re: “Fall Arts 2016: Top East Bay Classical Events

Dear Lou - Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra's 50th anniversary performance of Britten's Requiem was selected as SFCV's classical chorus concert of year. A difficult, large piece splendidly performed.Audience quote "It was an extraordinary performance. Being there just brought us incredible energy and showed the crashing of the powers that be. This chorus piece was the most unusual that you all have done but it touched me deeply."
