UrbanCore always intended to have a capital partner; the previous financing proposal was for UDR to have 97.5%, UrbanCore 2.5% (February 2015 staff report).

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

MikeM:
I am curious about your comment on the popular vote and would like to learn more. Can you explain your concern about the absentee ballots? My understanding is that they are still being counted and the steady rise we have seen in the last few days in Clinton's margin over Trump's has to do with the fact that the largest quantity of as yet uncounted absentee ballots is in the West. So the margin of Clinton over Trump is expected to continue to rise as the vote is finalized. Do you have some information to the contrary? Please share sources if you do.

I am particularly concerned that active voter suppression tactics by several states may have not only reduced the popular vote but actually done it sufficiently to flip the election. See the excellent reporting of Greg Palast whose analysis indicates that over a million voters have been inappropriately purged from the voter rolls. And that those numbers are primarily democratic. Check it at www.gregpalast.com

Turns out MikEM that he did not, he did not on 11:8:2016 either. Perhaps, in your case, you should 'google'. The count is now much higher and Hillary has won by over 1.5 MILLION votes. Our fight on this side is reorder and turn those red states on the cusp to blue by 2018, I believe we will

Re: “Berkeley to Consider New Living Wage, Minimum Wage Policies

What happened? Is there a follow up article to this? Did the new ordinance pass? I was looking up the most recent changes and couldn't find this specific clause. I did find a slew of resources at http://www3.swipeclock.com/new-berkeley-sick-leave-ordinance-means-multiple-sick-leave-laws-employers/ but can't find anything about the clarifications in this law. Please help. Thank you for your time!

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

Mike,
I do want to understand the pain that voted him in and perhaps you assume that those on different sides feel the pain of not being able to feed their fsmiky or have access to the American dream that so many Americans seem to feel is lost. But hating others, wishing or even permitting violence against others is not a difference of opinion. It is a value that The US ostensibly stands against around the world. That is the pain the protest is about. It is not about a more conservative president. We have had many Republican presidents. It is big business taking over the White House, permissive hate as a legitimized political stance. I think the vote actually raised many people's compassion and desire to hear the suffering of those they haven't heard. But not hate, and exclusion - that's the protest.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

I took my daughters to San Francisco Friday to join the protestors. We had police officers walking with us the entire time, and at least 6 Officers on motorcycles riding ahead of us to manage traffic. This is what Democracy looks like. It was powerful and peaceful.

When people ask me why I am protesting, my answer is this: When should we protest? Should we do it now under the leadership and protection of President Obama, or should we begin during President Trump's term? The comprehension that spreads across their face as they really realize 'Why Now' is heartbreaking.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

Protesting visibly displays public consciousness. You can see his attempts to appear more measured on the 60 mins interview.

Only 2-3 Million deported (vs 11 Million). Keep these parts of Obamacare. Keep the pressure on by staying visible.

Silence got us into this. Your public visible voices are a vital tool to get us out.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

The protest today allowed me to let my heart start to heal. It gave me hope seeing so many of my fellow countryman pulling together for the same reasons. We are very frightened of what's coming from a president that did everything he could to provoke hate. Dones it change anything? Probably not. But the message it sends is very clear. AND the healing it has allowed us to start is greatly needed. My heart broken for Hillary, for all women in this country, for every immigrant except Melania, for everyone that's not white, for everyone who has a religion not accepted in Trump land and for all the lgbtq community and for myself and my family.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

It's clear that some people aren't reading Cynthia's post clearly. She's asking rhetorical questions, and saying that the protesters should not be judged for expressing themselves how they see fit. To those that misunderstood - please be more careful. Misunderstandings are a big part of what fuels the misgivings the different sides of this situation have with each other. It also can generate infighting and friendly fire, as demonstrated here.
And to MIKEM, yes, please cite your sources for your absentee ballot comment regarding the popular vote results.

What this protest did for me was help to heal my broken heart and allow me to feel less frightened. I have not been able to sleep and have cried a alot since the election. It was indeed magical to join hands in healing solidarity. It gave me so much hope.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

These protests, this one and all the others, are completely unprecedented in U.S. history. They signal to the President elect that he is deeply unpopular and should act accordingly.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

It's great that you had a peaceful protest and it's one thing that America allows that other countries don't. As a Trump supporter, I, like you, protested as well. But I and millions like me protested in the voting booth. We were tired of big government taking away our rights, tired of being told how to think, and tired of being able to express our opinions only if they were the same as yours. So as I agree that you have the right to peacefilly protest the Trump election, please agree that I and people like me have the right to vote him in. And before the "popular vote" argument is brought up, Trump won that as well if we would count the absentee ballots.

Re: “Protesters Join Hands Around Lake Merritt in Oakland to Protest Trump, Hate Crimes

This was not a protest against Trump per se - this was a way to stand FOR something vs against it. In the words of the organizer: "The intention behind Hands Around Lake Merritt is healing and empowerment through standing together in solidarity, widening our embrace with all those impacted by this presidential election. We are not here to tell people how to be during this event. We welcome the full range of feeling from a stance of nonviolence. We stand in solidarity with all peoples, all traditions and all feelings."

It was, per another post...magical. To stand shoulder to shoulder with thousands of people who will stand up for inclusion, acceptance and equal rights for all. It's why I live in Oakland.

Re: “A New Way to Punish Oakland Cops?

Even though I was an acquaintance, former Lieutenant Clifford Wong was the nicest person I knew. He would go out of his way and put himself before anyone. If he didn't report this incident, he definitely had a reason, and a good one too. Also, I understand if Officer John Hargraves wanted to cover his name badge. There are many bad, terrible people in Oakland. Lots of people dislike police officers, and many people want to harm them. With the internet, just googling one name could give so much information.
