Re: “Town Business: Taxing Short-Term Rentals, Uber, and Revenue Wreckage

"A Uber/Lyft driver who operates in SF but drops off someone in Oakland."

In the capitalist world businesses are mostly taxed based on their business locations. This is a way of assessing taxes based on the administrative, economic and other costs of the business to its relevant locale.

An Uber/Lyft driver will owe taxes based on where he or she lives, works or otherwise creates costs to the public.

Re: “Town Business: Taxing Short-Term Rentals, Uber, and Revenue Wreckage

A Uber/Lyft driver who operates in SF but drops off someone in Oakland is expected to pay the city the tax? Good luck with that!!

Whenever "Fair Share" gets tossed around you know you're going to get screwed.

Re: “Oakland SRO Tenants Sue Tech Housing Investors for Harassment

I lived in Hotel Travelers for about a year prior to it being owned by Danny Haber. I can state that the current complaint regarding, "trash to pile up in the hallways, removed the building's wifi, and allowed the elevator to go unfixed", these problems existed in 2014/2015 and are partly the reasons I moved out.

As for the front desk attendee, they made me feel like I lived in a minimum security prison. They were confrontational/unpleasant. It also sucked not having a key to your own front door and having a bad tempered employee annoyed that you woke him up to get into your own building. If the tenants now have a key to the front door it might be a good thing.

I empathize for my former neighbors. That building was difficult to live in prior to the renovation and I can't imagine the situation is better. But it needs to happen.

Re: “Cops That Worked at Richmond Schools Now Under Investigation for Alleged Sexual Misconduct with Former Student

The concept of placing responsibility for the conduct of adult POLICE OFFICERS on a teenager is beyond disgusting--it must come from all the adult males in government, "law enforcement, " and all those positions of power that attract sociopaths and child molesters--I can't contain my wish to castrate all those pretenders to morality on behalf of all who are subjected to their posing and filth.

Re: “California Set for Historic Vote on Cannabis Legalization

"Federal Supremacy" folks occurs when state laws directly conflict with federal law like the CSA! NO state law can legalize "selling" and "profiting" from a controlled substance and the transactions involved! What's been happening here in California is a travesty of justice and a conspiracy of money hungry law makers and greedy for-profit corporations misleading and misguiding us ALL in order to "profit" from our personal choice of medicine! You see since current state law doesn't specifically say we can "sell" and "profit" from marijuana they want to rewrite it so it says we can and that will make what they've been doing for years unlawfully lawful in the future! NO one is currently following state law as is was meant to be followed because the state didn't and doesn't explain the facts and the truth properly to individuals and organizations! Why you may ask, well they can't tax lawful business activities where NO transfer of ownership or "sale" occurs but they can tax unlawful business activities! They made the "Compassionate Use Act" the "Cash in on our Use Act" turning compassion into compensation just so they can "sin tax" what should be tax free medicine like prescribed medicine and produce! Marijuana is our #1 cash crop and they want a piece of the pie and because marijuana is a controlled substance and recommended not prescribed they think we're just stupid stoners that will let them TAX the hell out of our personal choice of mother natures finest cure! Wake up people and smell the cannabis before these lawmakers and for-profit corporations pull the wool over our eyes even further! The laws we have now coexist and coincide with federal laws and if followed properly protect us from outrageous taxation and the potential of federal prosecution so why let them turn it all upside down so we can continue to be fleeced out of our money for what God put on this planet to heal us and make us happy! This is ALL about money folks so read up, educate yourselves and vote NO to the corporate capitalist trying to continue to mislead and misguide us simply so the can make money from a plant that can and will save America and the world!

Re: “#PhilandoCastile #AltonSterling #BlackLivesMatter — Share Your Words and Thoughts With the Express

Police need to be trained under fully adrenalized practice scenarios to minimize perceived threats to their own safety by methods other than murder, especially because adrenaline spikes are a huge contributor to nearly every circumstance of violence onto or by police. Police also need to see themselves as spokes in the wheel of society rather than a massive wrench that needs to bend the wheel to their own will.People of all backgrounds need to work together harder, teaching adults and people in power how to approach one another more thoughtfully. Some people say we shouldn't be prejudiced because we are all the same. That's a sweet idea, but really stupid. Because we ALL have prejudices that won't just disappear even though we want them to, we must instead constantly force ourselves to acknowledge and work with those prejudices instead of trying to ignore them.

As a father to a young child, and a person invested in the success off the collective, the value and importance of this kind of artistic care in our urban environment must be recognized, fostered, and acknowledged. Truly, a beautiful creation.

Re: “Federal Police Officer Offered to Pimp East Bay Teenager at Center of Oakland Police Sex-Abuse Scandal

This article illustrates my point this it NOT just about the private sex life of cops. Which now we know the REAL reason these people were REFUSING TO EVEN SPEAK TO OUR ORGANIZATION www.sexworkersanonymous.com But know this - this is not UNIQUE. This same scenerio has now taken place in Ohio, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Texas, San Diego, Tennessee, Atlanta, and now California. Over and over and over again we're having these "anti-prostitution" and sex trafficking task forces REFUSE to have anything to do with our organization who by the way STARTED THIS MOVEMENT (would you really try to help an alcoholic without Bill Wilson or AA?) and we've seen over and over and over again the truth come out as to the fact they were covering up something of their own. The PRESS STILL refuses to include us in the discussion, to the point of even blocking us from commenting as the Los Angeles Times has done, and yet WHAT'S CHANGING? I STILL don't hear anyone calling us up talking about what they're going to do about the fact not only are these programs and task forces REFUSING to even allow us to attend their meetings, let alone be involved in any capacity, but further our groups which meet in these area's have all reported back to us they were being threatened away from doing outreach, holding meetings, or even speaking to women like this Celeste calling our hotline. My complaints to the authorities of the threats we've been receiving steadily now since 2013 when we get calls from women like her to "back off" speaking to them are also going unresponded to. For THIRTY YEARS NOW we've proven where we've been involved - we've had a positive impact at getting these women help. Also for this same time period, we've seen over and over again where we're excluded, the problem is at it's highest because of police either being the traffickers, or customers AND traffickers, at the same time. I say that because anywhere I've seen the cops be having sex with these women I've ALSO seen them backing up the traffickers such as the Joohoon David Lee case out of Las Vegas - a Homeland Security and ICE Officer which by the way = how come the LA Times, ABC, CBS, CNN or no other major media reported on what this guy was doing along with the fact he's not been charged with sex trafficking - only bribery? Believe it or not, Narcotics Anonymous has the SAME problem as this back in the 1950's and with cops involved within using drugs and dealing. They found a way to work around it. So I'm asking - what are we going to do to change this problem? Because I also don't hear anyone talking about the MONEY WASTED HERE. Money which was supposed to be helping women like Celeste to get services - was just put into people's pockets which these cops also actively blocked her from getting any help and then threatening us when we take calls from girls like her. So WHAT'S GOING TO BE DONE NOW ABOUT THIS?

It's so beautiful that words aren't enough. Among many things it's a reminder to me of what we can do if we are thoughtful and brave.

Intentionally or not, law enforcement is always part of the business plan of drug and human trafficking.

306 people have been killed and 2,066 have been shot and injured in Chicago in 2016 alone. Hundreds more are dead in Baltimore, Detroit, st.louis, basically any black urban area is plagued by violence and death so I find it really had to get worked up over some extremely awful errors by law enforcement. But what is the real problem? Y

Re: “#PhilandoCastile #AltonSterling #BlackLivesMatter — Share Your Words and Thoughts With the Express

As a veteran who at 17 years of age made an oath to protect and defend this country I'm broken. Why is it that the mere presence of melanin is enough to cast doubt about my character, intellect, intent, or value before I even open my mouth? Why is it that my saying my life matters qualifies me as a racist? Why is my equality a threat to those who have it implicitly? Why do I have to beg and plead for my life to matter when I sacrificed my youth to protect a country that hates the very idea of a successful me? Why do the bigots who's freedom to speak I defended feel so comfortable speaking to me like trash. I've never hurt anyone, i am not a criminal' I am not a mutant, nor a super predator...I'm simply me and all I wanna know is why?

Re: “Felony Marijuana Arrests Drop In California

Some folks see the data I posted below and think it is false. They type angry replies and call me a liar. They say I'm just making it all up. They can't believe that if these numbers are correct, our government would still prohibit cannabis consumption. Yet my data is taken direct from the US Government's own Center for Disease Control website. I ask these angry folks to check my numbers for themselves and get back to me with any errors they find, then I never hear back. Franky I'm as shocked as those folks who get angry when they see the numbers.

Figures from the Center for Disease Control on numbers of deaths per year in the USA:

* Prescription Drugs: 237,485 + 5000 traffic fatalities
* Tobacco: 390,323
* Alcohol: 88,013 + 16,000 traffic fatalities
* Cocaine: 4,906
* Heroin: 7,200
* Aspirin: 466
* Acetaminophen (Tylenol): 179
* Marijuana: 0, none, not a single fatal overdose in all medical history and almost no traffic problems by comparison to prescription drugs and alcohol.

So, which is safer ???? Legalize, regulate and TAX!
