Re: “The Hunger Games

I'm dragging my husband to the Hunger Games this afternoon ... thanks to your review I'm confident that he won't feel that the movie is going to be another "Twilight" adventure.

I loved the books and look forward to seeing the novels come to life on the big screen.

Re: “California Crude

I'm no critic, but this review is awful. Most of it isn't even about the actual film. I'm pretty sure I could do your job better than you

Re: “Hugo

We don't often think of filmmakers as fans, but that's all they really are. They're the cinephiles who took the torch from a previous generation. Whether actor or director, cast or crew, all filmmakers started somewhere as movie aficionados. Even the great Martin Scorsese has a love of film that predates his career as a director. In his latest work Hugo, Marty takes the time to show moviegoers just how big a fan he is of movies. For more of my thoughts on Hugo, check out my review on Sobriety Test Movie Reviews at

Re: “Women on the Move

Wendy and Lucy - Although I admired the acting (however the store clerk was a little over the top) and the story was compelling, in the end this film wasn't convincing. Michelle Williams is too beautiful. It is a fact in this world that beautiful people have a much easier ride than ugly ones. I cannot accept the notion that a gorgeous woman would be in Wendy's situation. I would have bought into the story more if the role of Wendy had been played by a less attractive actress.

Re: “Puss in Boots

First third of this review is a really bad take on self-aware puns and the rest was basically a watered down summary with a little cast and production facts. Might not have even wanted to bother writing this review; there's nothing to take a hold of. Proclaiming there's "Nothing new, nothing strange, absolutely nothing unexpected, even for a five-year-old," but not stating anything that backs up these claims. Either delete this review or please rewrite it with some content.

It's easy to see you hate cats, but keep your hatred out of your reviews old fart.

actually he didn't initially go to Sudan after seeing a TV news report. It was after meeting the preacher from Africa at his local church in Pa.

Re: “The Man Who Fell to Earth

The voice over for the trailer, not to mention the trailer itself tells us all, or should do, but if not, Kelly V. tells us why & how super dated this film is but who cares? I would watch D.B in just about anything on offer and anyway, after Don't Look now, Walkabout and Performance, one must forgive Nicholas R. for a bit of dalliance in "science fiction"!

Re: “The Interrupters

great review of a fantastic film! i knew it would be powerful and sobering, but i didn't know i would laugh so much and fall in love with all the characters. only sad part was the irony of leaving the theater all inspired, and then driving home to oakland and its record-setting homicide rates.

Re: “Hysterical Society

What a fricking, pompous navel gazer of a reviewer. He sounds like he'd be a real blast at parties or, oh, anything where real life happens.

Yes, this movie had some flaws, but "Outrage Porn"? Wow. Um, yeah. The stoning of women does create rage. Sorry if you think the presentation of that rage is pornographic.

Now, go back to reviewing your cryptic, vanilla, intentionally ambiguous art films.

Re: “The Man Who Fell to Earth

The original version was a bit boring and long. The early sex scene with the Polaroid camera left somewhat of an impression on my fragile eggshell mind in the Red Vic in the early 80s. If that's where the extra 20 minutes shows up it may be worth it.

Re: “The Debt

"Give it a rest indeed! "

Or perhaps every aspiring political/espionage/love/drama film maker should just be sat down like Alex, eyes pinned open, to watch The Lives of Others,The Spy who came in from the Cold, Three Days of the Condor, The Third Man and The Conversation over and over until the "get it'!
