Re: “If Oakland Cracks Down On Underground Warehouses, It Will Snuff Out The City’s DIY Soul

Ladies, Gentlemen and all other gender non-identifiers, in the the person of JohnNoMoniker, I give you, what I am now calling the the alt-left.

Every bit a poisonous as the alt-right and it's figure head the new POTUS. Every bit as self centered, name calling and uninterested in solutions.
Swaddled in the the fuzzy language of "safe spaces", "complicated existence", holding these concepts as dear only to themselves, granting none to others.

BTW, forget food stamps, SSI and all the rest of those... Let's talk about those who decry how corrupt society is, scream for it's destruction while drinking clean water from a tap, using electric power from the wall for their Macbooks, iPhones, DJ dance parties and just in general enjoying the benefits of a non-primative, brutish existence free from large meat eating animals that would doubtless enjoy them as a a snack. All the while behaving as if anonymized destruction wrapped in outrage improves things.

disgusting

Re: “Stop Blaming Artists and Musicians for the Ghost Ship Fire. Blame People In Power Who Screwed Up.

"Or the outlier, bad-actor art-scene figureheads youre on watch" -stated right there that the writer is holding people like Almena accountable. did y'all read the article before you flipped a lid?

but a lot of you are missing the underlying point. our society does not promote non-profitable artistic creation, thus resulting in cities' lack of funding and support to those that want to dedicate their lives to artistic endeavors. resulting in places like the ghost ship...that said, if you are going to create a warehouse space, it should be done with more precautionary and safety measures. but i think the writer is saying to attack those in control of the system. those who are not thinking about providing affordable housing for creatives...and not just creatives, either. lack of funding and housing for homeless, veterans, service workers. it starts even beyond the city of oakland. it's a cultural mindset and art is on the back burner to retail development, big $ housing, and other corporate greed. but, for oakland, a city known to be "progressive", it should be a point of emphasis for those running the city to develop housing for all it's people...artists, low paying workers, minorities.

Re: “An Open Letter to Our Community, From the Former Residents of the Recently Closed LoBot Gallery in West Oakland

Efforts at Harm Reduction are starting. It's too late to stop the coming round of evictions, but perhaps in the new spaces that will be created in Vallejo, Stockton, Fresno, will be safer: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XtBIjV… which is a longer version of this: http://www.thestranger.com/slog/2016/12/06…

With this much evidence of manslaughter why isn't Derick in jail? The wife, too? He is a flight risk.

How did they afford their rock and roll lifestyle?

Re: “Stop Blaming Artists and Musicians for the Ghost Ship Fire. Blame People In Power Who Screwed Up.

Their passion....paid for with SSI and food stamps. Government assistance programs in the US are the biggest arts endowment program in world history.

Don't want to work? Get a malady...get SSI...and eat, drink, be merry...screw all day...call yourself an "artist."

I want to know...to paraphrase the song....how did they afford this rock and roll lifestyle? If rent was 6k and people paid 500 a month then 12 people could cover rent. And that was BEFORE admission fees for raves...none of it taxed...none of it counted as income against food stamps.

This was irresponsible lifestyle choice funded by the taxpayers...and it isn't just thus one time and place. This is how being an artsy bum works. This is how some oeople don't work and eat lobster and people who work buy noodles.

Survive on ramen....bullshit. working people eat ramen. Artsy bums eat lobster.

Re: “Coal Terminal Developer Suing City of Oakland, Seeking to Overturn Ban on Fossil Fuel Exports

Phil Tagami once again forgets that the City Council is not a private corporation. Their job is to represent the PEOPLE and to do what is best for the public good, not what is best for his good. Tagami has always used his political influence and relationships with Jerry Brown (Mayor) and City and Port officials to garner agreements to develop public property and then bully his way around the rules to then do what is in his own best interest. Notice that Tagami's group includes ex Port officials Jerry Bridges and Mark McClure. Phil does not understand that even if officials were at least open to his concept initially, they are under no obligation to give him anything. In this case, it appears that they did their due diligence in their consideration of all facets of his proposal and after public testimony and consideration of the facts, denied his request. Under the law, that is the only thing the City Council is legally required to do. Sorry Phil, your case has no merit. Instead of whining like a petulant child because you did not get your way, you should be spending your time and money trying to find uses that can actually move you forward in your development of the site.

Re: “Trump Calls Oakland One of Most Dangerous Cities in the World

Efforts to hush up the case of injury in the office quite lawful and also employers can be held accountable. There http://www.boyko-law.com/services/your-injury-attorney-in-brooklyn/ are a variety of circumstances where you need to count on an attorney of injury that could protect your legal civil liberties.

Re: “Oakland Firefighters Say Their Department Is So Badly Managed, Ghost Ship Warehouse Wasn't Even In Its Inspection Database

As I said...something is wrong with the assessed value in the first place. But usage outside proper zoning should result in more than a fine...it should nullify Prop 13 protections.

Should. Somebody would have to make the legal argument and have it stick...what a fascinating legal mess.

Did the assessed value keep going up? I find that hard to believe. Place had no power or water and stole from the neighbors. It appears that tax-wise the property was VACANT.

TAX FRAUD???

Out of all this human drama...what a dull little angle. I wonder if anybody in the media could be made to care?

Re: “When the Mind Splits

I currently have a friend that had Dissociative Disorder and I need to get her help ASAP. I live in the bay area but do not know who to get it from and how to contact her family about it; right now as I am typing it is 1:45Am and I just got off the phone with her, she is drunk and possibly might be in shock and I have no idea where she is. I'm hoping she wakes up tomorrow and calls me.

I need help, if anyone knows any professional Psychotherapist in the bay area that works with DID: please contact me in a comment reply here or message me immediately.

Thank you.

Re: “Stop Blaming Artists and Musicians for the Ghost Ship Fire. Blame People In Power Who Screwed Up.

Backlash on communities after that community has been traumatized is so common place that it's nearly logical in some warped out dimension where landlords and mortgage brokers decide who gets to own more gravity. I've lived in wild and weird housing most of my life (I'm 41). I feel like a broken record, but what if it was so fucked up expensive to live here? I grew up here, I can barely afford to live here, I'm a dedicated healthcare worker, and I can't see how anyone with two eyes and a life outside the suburbs could blame a bunch of people for giving up on creature comforts (who needs a stovetop anyways??) to pursue their passion. I know that arts and gentrification are intimately bonded, and I've done more than a fair share of bitching about it, but living like that, pursuing art with passion that makes it ok to be cold at night, survive on ramen and create, it's noble. I appreciate it so much.

Re: “Coal Terminal Developer Suing City of Oakland, Seeking to Overturn Ban on Fossil Fuel Exports

I understand that Phil Tagami had expressed interest in eventually running for Mayor. At this rate, he'd be hard-put to match Trump's 4.6% of the vote.

Re: “Friends Remember Integral Bay Area Artists, Musicians, and Sound Engineers Still Missing after Ghost Ship Fire

This is the kind of guy who sits around judging everyone around him while probably hiding kiddie porn in his basement.

Isn't that a hummer in your profile pic? Talk about responsibility! You probably love driving up to your local McDs for a welfare meat big mac (subsidies is welfare, mind blowing huh?) before heading over to Wally-world so you can support the welfare system you despise so much by shopping at a place whose employees are so low paid even at full time they still need food stamps, and whose products are made by children in other countries instead of by Americans.

Oh, and I'm sure you also hate the members of the armed forces who are smoking pot to deal with the PTSD they got watching their friends get blown up for your oil you love so much who also happen to get food stamps.

Yeah, you have the right to judge, sure.

You have no idea what a fool you are, your hero Trump is getting extra security to accommodate his needs that is going to cost more than food stamps all together for a WHOLE YEAR and still all you will spout is nonsense.

I got a post that the NYT is putting significant resources into covering the Ghost Ship fire. They are even asking the public to suggest avenues of investigation.
I found this when I followed up:

Re: “Coal Terminal Developer Suing City of Oakland, Seeking to Overturn Ban on Fossil Fuel Exports

The city agreed countless times to allow construction of a Bulk Terminal capable of shipping hundreds of commodities including Coal. It's not a "Coal Terminal"! Coal is just one of the many commodities it would handle. The city decided to flip flop as soon as it became politically unpopular but not before they left all us Oaklanders on the hook for this lawsuit which is well founded.

There's already UNCOVERED COAL shipments going through Oakland daily. Check out the rail cars next to the 880 next time you're passing Jack London headed towards the airport. The "coal ban" does nothing to stop any of that, it's simply a political gimmic veiled as environmental heroism.

Re: “Couple In Charge of Ghost Ship Lost Kids to Child Protective Services While Living in Oakland Warehouse

I just saw an interview on "Vice News" where a previous resident described lice "Jumping off of" these innocent children's heads. That and their living conditions were enough for me. I'm all for reunified families, but these kids need to be safe and Meth-head hoarder daddy who is about to go up on 36 counts of negligent homicide or involuntary manslaughter plus a slew of other lesser counts, along with mommy who left a 30-day rehab program early once she got her kids back don't sound like good parents. And calling warehouse residents his "children" (in another article) is creepy when you think about how he treated his own. It reminds me of a Jim Jones character who preyed on the vulnerable trans, artistic and alternative lifestyle seekers. And it is true that if you're willing to live in that hole but not willing to share a safer 1BR apartment in Oakland with a couple of those people in order to make it affordable, you don't get any sympathy from me. And I'm a supporter of the arts community. This was a horrific event nationwide, worst in over decade (in all 50 states) and SOMEONE IS DIRECTLY TO BLAME .and that person is this narcissistic borderline meth addict, the psychotic Derek Ion. Throw the book at him.

Tagami, you bloodthirsty pig, isn't it time you went scouting for some other community to rape & pillage? Have we not suffered enough of your insatiable greed?
