Re: “The Wolf in Oakland Modernizes a Cal-Cuisine Legend

Tommy: I found the patio to be quite loud, so you'd be better off requesting a table inside, perhaps further back away from the doorway (where there are sometimes groups of people waiting for a table).

Re: “The Wolf in Oakland Modernizes a Cal-Cuisine Legend

Thanks for another well-written review. Would it be possible to add a sentence describing the noise level? I frequently go to restaurants with my parents, who are a bit hard of hearing, and it can be difficult to find a spot where we can easily converse. Thanks.

Phil Jones you are an idiot and you are probably looking forward to large tax increases by the state of California. It will happen when federal funds are withheld from the left coast.

Re: “Corporate Beer Overlords AB InBev To Open Golden Road 'Craft' Beer Garden in North Oakland

The problem here is that ABInBev buys up distributors in order to destroy the channel for independent craft brewers to get their beers distributed. This is completely unacceptable and any ABInBev owned and operated business should be boycotted.

Re: “Corporate Beer Overlords AB InBev To Open Golden Road 'Craft' Beer Garden in North Oakland

The concerns are legitimate.
The craft beer movement has been one of the most exciting pushes away from factory food back to local craftsmanship, community values and a resurgence of beer culture in this country lost since before prohibition. When the largest multinational beer corporation tries to pass as part of the authentic local brewing community, that is not just a cute marketing tactic, it is strikingly lopsided and cynical competition for the up and coming brewers rooted here. It's a tactical move to pull apart the famous cooperation among the independent brewers. Beer monopoly dressed up in a shipping container is not good for beer, not good for Oakland, not even good for Oakland business. Score one for Brazilian-Belgian multinational ABImbev, though. Here comes the fake authenticity blueprint ready for every cool town in first American then elsewhere.

Re: “The Bulimic Brain

The article left me feeling dismayed. I'm trying to recover on my own due to the fact of location, and no good resources around in the town I live in.

I'm glad I read the comments as well , the article has some amazing facts but ultimately left me feeling like I'll never be able to lead a normal life . Constantly thinking about my addiction. Thank you commenters , little bit of positivity at the end of a dark glummy tunnel .

Re: “A Look at Who is Financing Oakland City Council Candidates

Thanks for the information provided. Politics is a quite dirty thing and ordinary people cant even imagine how much money is regularly invested in political campaigns. All the candidates want to look like fair and honest people but most of them have something to hide and quite often they lie about where they get the money for their campaigns. There are many people living through http://quickandeasyloanservice.com/ while millions of dollars are invested every year to make somebody rich even richer.

Re: “Darwin BondGraham, Ali Winston Receive Society of Professional Journalists Award For Oakland Police Reporting

BondGraham and Winston certainly deserve recognition for their good work.

Needs to be said that coverage of Oakland government, politics and community has long offered endless opportunities for productive investigative journalism. Local media ignore most of Oakland's economic and social problems and the destructive and shameful failures in city hall.

There remains an enormous amount of work yet to done telling the stories of what really goes on in Oakland.

Re: “Corporate Beer Overlords AB InBev To Open Golden Road 'Craft' Beer Garden in North Oakland

I agree that this seems a great development for North Oakland. I don't follow the editorial sub-text that runs through this report that somehow AB InBev's involvement is a bad thing - unless it's a personal bias harbored by the author?

I am pretty sure Lady Esther's opened on 7th Street before 1968. I remember it as a child. Glad to see it back

Re: “Berkeley's New Progressive Majority Gets Serious About Homelessness Solutions

@ Erik Kengaard

Well, yes, quite a lot has changed since the 1950's. Not just Berkeley, for that matter.

I didn't come to Berkeley until the end of the 1960's. I was a teenager and only had the contents of what I carried in my backpack, having immediately preferred Berkeley to the mean streets of LA. We didn't even have the term "homeless youth" then, but retroactively that would apparently apply.

However, back then, it was pragmatically possible to meet and mix things up with quite a lot of people, which also led directly to joining households and at a affordable rate even for one in my position then. This same premise also often led directly to various work, gigs, and other pursuits. Same held true in any number of other cities, towns, whatever of the time. Imagine that. And no "case management".

Re: “Berkeley's New Progressive Majority Gets Serious About Homelessness Solutions

A typical stance for those that make their living inserting themselves between people and homes is to "adv ocate" for various "services" [theirs, of course] instead or as concommitant. The demonstrated Housing First successes have manifestly proven otherwise, while the dubious "services" have perpetuated and/or worsened homelessness for quite a long time now.

And just what requires New Constructions to do Housing First? Nothing.

I'm excited for the development this can bring to the neighborhood! Of course we hope for more small local shops, but having an anchor like that as an attraction is a great start!

Timothy Counts: Do you have any sources and math to back that up?

And, regardless, the State of California is far more skilled at budget and spending management than Oakland. So, there is no comparison of management risk.

Re: “The Old Mervyn's Headquarters in Hayward Underscores a Lack of Resources to Address the City's Homelessness Crisis

I'm a California native. My grandparents and parents here came out of the dust bowl... Picked fruit and cotton in central valley when they got here... Did what they had to, to survive. Okies had to deal with sundown towns too. This what people did. I'm baffled at what goes on now. People seem willing to live in what is effectively a cave to avoid change.

Please, someone explain this to me.
