Service was fast food grade left something at the table for 5 minutes and it was gone Be careful!
Ajanta gave me a severe case of food poisoning a couple of years ago. My guess is the scallops, mentioned above, was the culprit.
The place was disorganized and the service was BEYOND slow.
Prices were exceptionally high for the quality (or lack thereof).
That famous lava cake everyone tells you about....tastes about equal to a boxed lava cake mix. btw - lava cake saw its peak about 6 years ago.
This place was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. A definitely NO!
The pizza is cold. How can the pizza be cold when it is 15 steps from the oven to the table? Crust is chewy, not in a good way. Staff is completely oblivious. Failed to refill water, failed to get my colleague's beer, then failed to tell him that beer was out, then failed to get us the check... in short, fail.
Lousy service - and they do not keep their committment to the musicians and pay them what was agreed upon in email.
I do not recommend this place as I said, the owner Damon was rude - demanded I give up the table I had been holding waiting for a friends to join me for dinner - no sooner did I give up the table when my friends came in. Because I had one of my artists performing their that night and had asked several people to come out to support I could not very well leave - we wound up standing in the back eating dinner standing up at the end of the bar - when I had sufficient seating for us - just 5 mins before their arrival! I had promoted telling my friends to come out and support this new business! DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!
Damon agreed to a $10 cover for the bands I booked - and refused to charge more than $5 - I understand venues are hurting - but when you agree to something you must keep your word - I even reached a compromise and communicated with the musicians - they still did not honor their word on the compromise - he was insulting to me - insulting to the musicians - and I strongly advise not going here - the only redeemable thing about this place are the corn nuts!
This place was a DIVE. Tall blond waitress hit on my date and gave my date her phone number. Wrong food. No water after it was Reordered. DIVE. BAD SERVICE. Customer had to Leave HUNGRY.
We thought the food was heavy handed and really average to poor pizza. Ingredients are very fresh in the Bay Area and there's no reason to douse things in balsamic vinegar and oregano (like their farro salad). The staff did not know the wine list and was not attentive to things like filling water glasses. There are plenty of other places that have far better pizza and sides (Boot and Shoe, Marzano, Locanda da Eva to name a few) at basically the same prices. EBExpress review sounded good so we thought we would try Paisan, but we would not go back.
Meat was bland and pretty flavorless. The brisket was not seasoned well at all and the chicken taste old...will not be going back :(
On Friday evening July, 2, 2010 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm I took a friend out to buy her drinks for her birthday. Upon departure I was given ONE receipt for the amount of $32.00, which I signed and still have. Yet, the bartender charged me an additional $52.00, despite me never signing an additional receipt for $52.00, nor racking up an additional $52.00 in charges. Due to this error, I went out of my way to go back to Easy on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 4:30 pm. The bartender told me there was nothing she could do and that I would have to speak with the owner. When asked when the owner would be around, she stated that she didn’t know and that the owner randomly just stops by every so often???! Please tell me what type of resolution does such information and such availability provide for consumers who support this establishment, yet have been the victim of errors on behalf of incompetent staff?? I was given a useless automated phone line and an email address (allegedly the owners Kolin), causing me to be able to do nothing about being overcharged but leave emails and vm msgs in hopes that someone will treat me fairly and handle this error on the behalf of incompetent staff justly, although how long it will take to complete such a simple transaction remains unknown, which only adds to the wrongness and bad faith business practices of this establishment. I have supported this local neighborhood spot since it opened, but due to this incident I will never go here again.
yeah. Nice $14 cheese plate. We got what, 3 pieces of cheese, no bread, some honey, and a few pieces of tomato? This is one small complaint among a completely pathetic experience (smallest wine pour ever, worse service I've seen in a long time, etc etc etc). Go to the Trappist or to B if you're in the area. You'll be MUCH better served.
We ordered badly - pork and polenta. The breaded pork was literally indistinguishable from a leather shoe sole, same thickness, same texture, and possibly same taste. We should have sent it back.
The first time we dined at Tiki Tom's last year we had a wonderful time. The food was very good and the cocktails were excellent. They offered live Hawaiian music and dancing. Then we returned this weekend and were very disappointed. The atmosphere has changed. The live Hawaiian music is still very good, but very few people were seated in the restaurant section - and for good reason. What happened to this place? The restaurant now has pool tables and caters to a bar crowd. We had some drunken patron bump into our table asking for rolling papers. That set the tone of our dining experience.
The service was poor and the meal was disappointing. I ordered ahi tuna and when it arrived to our table it was covered in mystery sauce. The rice and veggies were bland and the "white shark'"cocktail I ordered was uninspiring - no fruit garnish or accents. I can't recommend this place to anyone. Its a shame because the first time we visited this restaurant we had such a good time. If the bar crowd is propping up this business I can't imagine that it will remain in existence much longer.
The Green Frog might be the only smart one. It is on the outside trying to escape.....
I recently visited this restaurant with a friend of mine and witnessed the most HORRIFIC thing EVER!! There were a group of mothers with their adorable children that walked in. First of all the OWNER repeatedly told them he only had 1 high chair for their combined 4 children, all ranging from the ages of 8 months- 6 yrs old. Accidents happen, we all know this. One of the babies ACCIDENTLY dropped a glass and the glass broke. In a NORMAL restaurant, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Right? WRONG....the OWNER proceeded to walk to the table and told them they had to leave!!!! He also told them that something bad was going to happen to them because the glass broke!! Who says things like this?? The ladies looked shocked and confused...as would I. He still REFUSED to serve them and continued to ask them to leave. DISGUSTING!!!!!! I'm not from this area, but you would think we were over this kind of treatment. I saw all kinds of things in this event. Discrimination, Hate, Cruelty, Abuse, maybe Racism?? The OWNER should be ashamed of himself. *** I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!***** p.s. The food was not that great, especially when there's HATE in the ingredients!!! That does NOT taste good AT ALL!!

It is my understanding that they have moved to a diffrent
location.....don't even think about going and have pizza it is the worlds worst.....I also know that the place was shut down by the county health dept. they found rat crap in
pizza flour so don't even think about going there....the person who did the above entrance comments about the pizza being "kick ass" needs his head examined or maybe his taste for what a good pizza is..........

The service is the worst we've ever experienced. Of course it was busy, but everyone seemed to be eating, so we thought we'd try our luck. It took 30 minutes after being seated just to have our order taken. We ordered 3 dishes - noodles, vegetables, and fish - nothing complicated. 40 minutes later, the waitress comes back to tell us that they are out of the Pea Sprouts we ordered and to pick another vegetable. OK, fine, we'll do the Bok Choy. 10 minutes go by and we watch as a waiter delivers an order of Pea Sprouts to a nearby table that came in well after us. Strike 1. Another 10 minutes roll by, still no food. The waitress comes by again to tell us, unapologetically, that they are now "out of chow fun". Strike 2. Fine, the birds nest noodles it is. Another 10 minutes pass, we finally get our bok choy. 5 minutes later, the 2 other dishes arrive. Everything was good, but maybe it only seemed that way because we waited SOOOO LONG for it.
After we ate, we asked for the manager to complain and and all he could say was "sorry" to each of our gripes. Just "sorry". Strike 3.
DO NOT EAT HERE if you expect great service or a friendly attitude. Not sure why they treated us so badly, but I will never eat there again (or maybe only if it's takeout). If you are trying to catch a movie afterward (and we were), DO NOT EAT HERE. They get to you when they feel like it and, dang it, they lied to us.
Maybe if you are in a big group, they will give you a higher priority, but this experience just plain sucked.

The worst restaurant experience I have had in years. One salmon filet was done correctly, two were actually cold and raw inside (our server said they had given some one else our order, and they were out of salmon - we insisted they cook more - our mistake). The chicken was the quality of airline food. The drinks were watery, and if you want a good Mojito make it your self (or go somewhere else). Service was overwhelmed and poor - no one seemed in charge or to care about diners experiences. I would only go here if restaurant was empty and staff not busy, and I would order wine or beer and skip dinner. But, given the number of good restaurants on Solano Avenue, you might just as go somewhere else.

The food is mediocre at best, but the real issue with this place was the service we received. At the end of the meal, we had a problem with our bill. Our server said he could not honor a dining certificate we had. We asked to speak to the manager. He brought us the owner. The owner refused to honor the certificate. After some discussion, he became rude, as if it was our fault there was a problem, and was yelling at us. He said he bought the business back in January and as the new owner was not responsible for an agreement with Restaurant.com established by the prior owners. However, we bought the certificate from Restaurant.com in February while he was the owner. Fortunately for him, the restaurant is very loud, so only the table next to us had to listen to his unapologetic ranting. With so many other wonderful restaurants in the Bay Area, I disappointed that I wasted my time and money on this one.

I've gone to this guy for a couple of years, great sandwiches but expensive compared to other sandwich shops (Subway?). I usually put up with this drill sargeant when I go in there, part of the experience going into his shop, but I've had a terrible experience with him as of late, with him "charging" me for 2 sandwiches that I never recieved because the 2nd to last time I patronized his business I was carrying no cash (he takes cash only) after I ordered the sandwiches, so the order was cancelled, and I went to another establishment. Sure enough, this psycho is asking for his money 2 days later, and shocked and confused, I regrettably payed him. Once I figured out what was going on, I demanded my money back, or for him to at least provide the 2 sandwiches that I never received, and he refused!? I've reported him to the BBB and written letters to get my money back and he has not responded. So, if you don't mind feeling like your working for the propietor of this business rather than the other way around, the sandwiches are good, if a little pricey; but if I were you I'd pass this place up and patronize a business that understand who the customer is!

Re: “Egbert Souse's”
Avoid Egbert Souse's on Piedmont Avenue. Egbert Souse needs to be closed! Egbert Souse's is a nuisance at all times of the day and night. Egbert Souse has a negative impact on Piedmont Avenue residents, visitors and businesses. Egbert Souse's customers are always blocking the sidewalk in front and around the bar. Fights break out at least twice a week (including with weapons). Customers sit in their cars playing loud music while drinking and using drugs. The City of Oakland has even filed lawsuits against Egbert Souse's. How many people have to be shot and killed at Egbert Souse's to get it shutdown?
