Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
A great theater / cafe / community space. Ever wanted to order gourmet food, good beer, then go sit in a theater with stadium seating filled with comfortable living room furniture, and have your food delivered to you? You can do that here. Just for that, let alone the good this place does for the community, I think it's the best theater in the East Bay.
It's hard to believe just how enormous this place is. I've gone there twice and still haven't seen it all. And the exhibits are very well-curated...you'll learn more about California than you could have imagined. Also, they have free admission on the first Sunday of every month.
I like their veggie burger, no bun, plus egg. Great salad, fries, and other small plates.
The fritopie is even more delicious the second day
Hands down the best brisket and ribs I have had since Texas
giant classic pulled pork sando with vinegar slaw what else to say! Ask for the secret mustard sauce...
This club is the BEST. Every night is a different kind of LIVE Music. You can choose from Blues, Rock, Cajun, African, Carribean, Reggae, Brazilian, and many, many MORE. The dance floor is wooden and has give to it, so it does not hurt. Three good bathrooms, inexpensive to enter, eat, and drink. It's Very safe and has plenty of parking in the REI lot across the street at Gilman and San Pablo Ave.
It is cozy and yet stylish, open to the street and ringing with the amazing beauty of powerful performances.
Superb Italian food...pastas are wonderful, try the Steak (1 or 2 people), fish is terrific. Service is very strong...sit in Bayluv's section.
what? No calendar of live music at the roundup?!!!!
their url is in fact www.onepacificcoastbank.com
This spot is really kind of a find. It is located in an area you wouldn't think had any type of nightlife. Once you walk inside your eyes immediately adjust to comfort as the staff greets you and the decor grabs you. I walked in on a Saturday night that just happened to be a house night for music. The party was called "Infectious" and it was just that...infectious. These DJ's were really good and the drinks weren't bad either. I plan on returning often.
Lois has been dead for over twenty years now but the business long outlives her. That's beautiful. She left a legacy that has been handed down to her son. That's powerful. A mother that leaves a business to her children, I love any parent that does that. That's powerful man. We need more intergenerational transfer of businesses and wealth in the African-American community. We have some, but not enough, we need more, much more.
