Re: “Egbert Souse's

Avoid Egbert Souse's on Piedmont Avenue. Egbert Souse needs to be closed! Egbert Souse's is a nuisance at all times of the day and night. Egbert Souse has a negative impact on Piedmont Avenue residents, visitors and businesses. Egbert Souse's customers are always blocking the sidewalk in front and around the bar. Fights break out at least twice a week (including with weapons). Customers sit in their cars playing loud music while drinking and using drugs. The City of Oakland has even filed lawsuits against Egbert Souse's. How many people have to be shot and killed at Egbert Souse's to get it shutdown?

Re: “1192 Folsom

Amazing and total mix-it-up venue; though you never know what event is going on when you show up, they always deliver, the security is fabulous, the staff is courteous and inviting, and the decor is freakin awesome. The have 2 different rooms you can dance in and one whole bar room all equipt with gold couches and hand painted coffee tables all over (they even have cute stenciled F8 logos in the corners!). Even in the backroom, which is smaller, the DJ is heard completely and without any clash between the the smaller and the larger rooms and it looks like they actually take care of the decor; there's a giant mural on the back wall that is apparently changed seasonally. I would totally recommend going here on a night with the bands (Tuesdays,) or for Housepitality (free champagne from 9-10) or on Saturdays when Trapp City is hosting the evening.

Re: “Castro Valley Library

My favorite place to sit and write. Nicely lit, decent chairs, big windows looking out to flowing trees.

Re: “Starbucks

Off the beaten trails. Nice place to relax, write, spend time that's usually not so crowded and has a decent view of trees.

Re: “Victory Burger

I liked it too! But the bathrooms...could have asked for a little more.

Re: “Owl & Company Bookshop

The phone number is wrong, it is 510.788.5821. Also, it is NOT a "little" shop but the largest by space and titles on the Avenue and one of the largest used bookshops in the EAST BAY, COVERING ALL SUBJECTS. Also the web page is down now but will be back up soon.

You can see a short video of the shop at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EC_WdLmMbc

Re: “Portal

Awesome food and atmosphere. The owner is incredibly accommodating and conscientious of the guest. Love the variety of food and multiple beers. The patio on a sunny day is THE place to be!

They made me the best grilled goat cheese sandwich ever! And a Redbull vodka to go with it.

Re: “Borgo Italia

That Twitter account is incorrect. I don't think they have a Twitter account. They do have a Facebook page though.

Re: “Sushi Sho

Sushi Sho is the best Sushi in the Bay Area. It is very traditional Japanese, so people unfamiliar with Japanese culture might find it too simple or too austere. Nonetheless the quality is unbeatable. As my Japanese friend says: it's the closest to being in Japan as you can get in the Bay Area.

Re: “Mr. Mopps’ Children’s Books & Gifts

Perfect place for toys and books for all ages A great range of classic and new products that cover all interests and abilities. This is a treasure chest for playthings that are well worthwhile. Easy to find and park and browse to locate that special gift for every child (and adult) on your list. A great store.

Re: “Morcom Rose Garden

I hope I,m in the right place, or was. I lived on Piedmont Ave while attending CCAC (Now CCa), in Oakland, and my room-mate & I wandered off and found ourselves in this beautiful Garden of roses. We were looking for Mary B. Best's Ice cream 'hideaway'. We -being art students-were 'lost' for hours. What a wonderful way to lose the day. I believe we tried to find it several more times, only to be successful once. This was in 1978 or 1979, so perhaps we were sniffing too much 'rose dust'. I hope it was real, as this 'roasis' was just a few blocks from several major roadways. One our best college memories!

Re: “Soul's Restaurant

My grandmother passed away a long time ago... but my family and I swear that on Sunday's SOUL'S somehow wakes her from the Grave to cook... SOUL'S is a wonderful place to eat... Awesome food, Great Service and just as SoulFul as Sexual Chocolate...

Make sure you have had nothing before going to the Sunday Brunch. it's pure Gluttony. They have large tables and Chairs that make you feel comfy too... I like that. It's about $20 for the all you can eat sunday brunch... it's SOOOO worth it!!!

Re: “Donut Savant

This may be the best donut that I've ever eaten. This cute shop, demurely situated between a falafal shop and a junk store, and conveniently at the mouth of a 19th St Bart station entrance, keeps me always wanting another. Firstly, the donut I can only describe as "cake" but it doesn't leave that heavy, "why did I just eat that" feeling in your stomach. It only leaves you wanting more! A sucker for chocolate, the first donut I had was the chocolate glaze. Unlike the Krispy Kreme, or Dunkin' style glaze, Donut Savant has a thick, Julia Child-style dark chocolate ganache spread atop each cake donut. It is unreal how delicious it is! The other styles and flavors I have tried are similarly delicious. I can also attest to the delightfulness of the seasonal pumpkin donut.
