The cheeky Motion Man cut his teeth doing customized answering machine greetings for friends, and ended up being the second emcee to bless the mic on Sway and King Tech's radio show World Famous Wake Up Show (from which he garnered a lot of fans who worked night shifts in pizza parlors). Plus, he really likes ass. "I think about ass all the time," the Hayward-raised emcee confesses. Ergo, "Dat Ass," a standout number on his new album, Pablito's Way. Built around a tinny drum machine beat, the song features a nyah-nyah call-and-response between Motion and the coquettish Rasheda Laquita Johnson, who's famous for having an ass like Eugene grass. "Dat Ass" doesn't exactly qualify as deep-dish philosophy, but it's an accurate representation of this emcee's character — he's exceptionally snide, strikingly funny, and definitely more enterprising than the average ass fetishist. Laced up with bawdy cameos by hyphy kingpin Mistah F.A.B. and strip-club-oriented Too $hort, Pablito's Way is nonetheless a backpacker album. By some alchemy, Motion Man melds his guest artists with KutMasta Kurt's decorative, arthouse beats. The effect is a little jarring, but it works. You'll see.
