Our young heroes start off this long-player quite modestly, but soon hurl into some of the hookiest, raggediest rock tunes this year. "The Dugout" unleashes a solid, chugging rock guitar, a dream about a baseball diamond, and a couple of solos that build to face-melting proportions. Theirs is a loose, raw, and undemanding rock and roll that has the same mud of Mudhoney, and the same Jurassic-ness of Dino Jr. It also has a certain charm and pluck that lends it integrity, while giving you reason to down a pint and run out to the shore and piss it out as the moon rises, or as the sun sets. If the world is right, this promising debut record will be on stereos and iPods everywhere, repeating its infectious, angst-laden love songs and chunky choruses. These Vancouverites' thick, warm, and dirty distortion with its soft -vs.-loud dynamic will thicken your synthed-out skin just in time for a nuclear summer.
