Re: “Corporate Beer Overlords AB InBev To Open Golden Road 'Craft' Beer Garden in North Oakland

Residents of the nearby 40th street neighborhood as well as the larger community have concerns regarding noise, parking, traffic and the impact on the neighborhood--particularly having a corporate giant in what is now a thriving small business hub at 40th and Broadway.
Please view our petition/comments to the City Planning Commission of Oakland below, and sign if you support us! Deadline is noon April 3rd.

Sounds delicious. Too bad it's in Emeryville, the most ill-planned mall-town in California.

Re: “General Electric Plans To Demolish East Oakland Factory. But Residents Want More Than A Polluted, Vacant Lot

I don't care if GE wants to tear down the building. Make them clean up their mess. Keep them in court until they do. People should be able to be safe anywhere on the property, after GE is gone. A concrete cap is GE's way of disparaging Oakland and leaving pollution to float through the aquafer. GE's final "screw you!"

Re: “What to Do When ICE Raids Your Restaurant

Hey Rich, what imaginary world are you living in? ICE just shot and killed a man in Chicago the other day. There are numerous reports of ICE enforcing Dump's inane and ridiculous command. Why not do something called an internet search? And why shouldn't citizens or sensible politicians bash the current regime? Dump and his swamp creatures are the source of some of the most disgusting and assbackwards policy changes in US history.

Re: “AB InBev’s Corporate Craft Brand Isn’t Coming to Oakland To Make Beer Buddies. It’s Coming To Dominate.

Most beer drinkers in the Bay Area will support a locally owned shop rather than some nasty corporate conglomerate. Of course the ex-frat and sorority newcomer/carperbaggers will flock to it like they flock to Chipotle over real Mexican food. They can have it. This just means less obnoxious behavior in beer pubs for the rest of us. Feel sorry for the neighbors. As we know the City of Oakland doesn't give a sh*t about people who live here, only about $$$ for their political campaigns and their real estate cronies like slumlord scumbag Keith Kim.

Re: “State Sen. Nancy Skinner: Latest Fatal Oakland Fire Was 'Preventable'

@Anika, that is simply not true. Rent control is NOT stopping landlords from making repairs, greed is.

Thank you Darwin!
I knew it---the city is culpable. But do the victims of this fire have any recourse? When do the lawsuits begin? The Oakland city government is a nest of vipers.

Re: “Eating Chinatown: A Walkable Guide to Oakland's Most Delicious Neighborhood

Luke, you have just broken the seal! I have always wanted to see a comprehensive guide to Oakland Chinatown for both restaurants and the markets. I've been putting a list together myself but I think a project like that would need a full team. Are you interested in putting one together?

Re: “State Sen. Nancy Skinner: Latest Fatal Oakland Fire Was 'Preventable'

The problem is rent control in Oakland.
You cannot just evict someone or move tenants out for repairs ... you have to have Just Cause.
Rent control is allowing tenants to stay in dilapidated housing and preventing property owners to maintain their properties. That's why 1/2 of Oakland looks like a ghetto.
Rent Control + Cheap Rent = Ghetto

Re: “What to Do When ICE Raids Your Restaurant

Key, to date there has been no ice raid or other enforcement. The media and politicians are creating histeria around this issue. Sure find a few cases across the US and make it sound like every neighborhood is involved. The politicians should work on solving the problem instead of exploiting it or just bashing the current regime.

Good work Nick. ABInBev's history of despicable business practices is remarkable. There Southern CA distributors were fined just last month for pay-to-play draft beer placements.

Re: “General Electric Plans To Demolish East Oakland Factory. But Residents Want More Than A Polluted, Vacant Lot

There is no question that this historically significant building should not be demolished. A concrete cap as a solution to site contamination is a 50 year old, cheap fix that should not be an option in this case. If any company in America has the resources to save the building and clean up the site, it is General Electric. In addition, the potential importance of this building's retention to a long neglected neighborhood is also significant. Given new investment by AC Transit of the BRT project along International Blvd, adaptive reuse of this iconic building is a rare opportunity. Beyond that, I am confused by the City process and question why this is before the Planning Commission without any replacement project to consider. In order to demolish the building, I believe that local codes require that the replacement use of the site is a factor to be considered prior to issuance of a demolition permit. Beyond that, demolition of this important building would be a significant impact under CEQA. In order to approve the EIR, the city will need to adopt an SOC (Statement of Overriding Consideration). In order to adopt the SOC, the city will need to find that the public benefit of approving the "project" (demolition of the building) outweighs the benefit of retaining the resource. I don't know how you can make that finding without evaluating some reuse of the site. Without a replacement project to consider, the city and GE would be open to legal challenge of the environmental document.

Re: “Home Decorating for the Transient

As a house owner, I would like to give a complete focus on the home decoration part first, therefore, I would like to take the help of interior designers, taking suggestions from different sources, following different instructions and many others. Apart from home interior, we should also focus on the exteriors such as; quality doors and windows, backyard, walls and many others. The best part we should learn that how to save space, so we used to take some valuable lesson from this article. Thanks for this wonderful sharing.

Re: “Corporate Beer Overlords AB InBev To Open Golden Road 'Craft' Beer Garden in North Oakland

So they want to build something like the Midtown Beer garden in Sacramento. They were one of the first Cargo Container usages in the Sacramento Area, They were shut down in having the containers be shown to the public, they had to cover them with ugly siding cause they did not understand the concept.Oh well, it's always packed and features great German Beer and craft beers as well.
