Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
So happy to see, E.M. Wolfman's is a fun, great place to visit!!
The BEST yarn shop in THE WORLD. Hands down. . .
I have been more impressed with this local campaign than anything that has happened in years in Oakland. Shutting down the City Council meeting seems to have been an effective strategy in gaining time and media attention. It's hard to come from behind and organize neighbors effectively. A million thanks to the City staffer (?) who leaked the memo from City Attorney Barbara Parker that might have killed the sweetheart deal with UrbanCore. So many of the most important City decisions happen in "closed session" and that's a shame for those of us community activists who should at least have a chance to weigh in. Same thing happened with the 5 new Bay Bridge billboards (although we at Scenic East Bay were able to help pull the plug on 2 of them.) Kudos EUJ!
I agree with this perspective. Mr. Finnell has brought professionalism, experience and commitment to police accountability in Oakland. We expect that he will continue to strive to strengthen police oversight and confront the racial disparities that continue to exist in police encounters.
How wonderful to discover this delightful article in today's "Best of the East Bay" section! A small correction: Disclosure will run August 12-29 at PianoFight (not August 12-20). Tickets are available from EventBrite: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/disclosure-tickets-17559102749?aff=eac2

Just Deserts was great--it's amazing how looking at these old stories through new eyes has helped me understand how women fit in the world and in our culture. Explains a lot of weird and real-world experience. Those Women just started a fundraising campaign, I gave them some $ and hope others do too. http://igg.me/at/twp2015/x/11544782
And speaking of disclosure (the great play coming up), I have followed Carol Lashof's work for years--ever since I married into the family.

...isn't it: "Best Oakland-Branded Beer Whose Offices Are in Walnut Creek and Then Brewed in San Jose"? Seems like a pretty slim candidate pool for a very specific award.
Thank you! But it's not just me: Paul Rosenbloom, Chris Kidd, Dan Schulman, Neal Parish and others are part of Oakland Urban Paths, too (Paul and Dan founded OUP)
Do NOT feed ownerless cats. It just attracts more cats, raccoons, skunks etc. The fastest way to reduce feral cat numbers is trap and REMOVE them. If they are not suitable for re-homing, euthanise, and then go trap some more cats again before the next breeding cycle. Neutering and feeding cats does NOT reduce the feral cat population overall as the necessary neutering rates are never actually reached (95%) while intact cats immigrate to the food source, perpetuating the breeding problems.
Actually I have the honor of tweeting #oakmtg first, in July 2009, when I entered it into a hashtag dictionary. It was Echa Schneider's idea and she ran the blog http://abetteroakland.com which was a forum for civic discussion before Twitter came along. A few days later the two of us and Sean livetweeted the Council meeting of July 28, 2009.
I need a Best Place to Buy women's swimsuits
Maybe the top-two primary won't exist in 2016. The lawsuit against it filed by the Green, Peace & Freedom, and Libertarian Parties is still not over.
Not effective. Not humane. Terrible for wildlife. Increases risks to public health. Infringes on landowner rights. Trap and remove.
This mural was painted over by the Jack London Improvement District, an association of JLS property owners. Express - can you get to the bottom of this? why would such a great mural - a source of tremendous civic pride - be painted over?
Nice post. I was checking continuously this weblog and I’m inspired! Very useful info specifically the remaining section. I maintain such information a lot. I used to be seeking this certain information for a very long time. Thanks and good luck. Find Outdoor Games information. http://outdoorsactivities.com/best-swimming-goggles-review-2015/
An overpriced restaurant with very, very bad food.
lol Very original way to make pizza dude! Definitely very creative to start cooking up your meal with a good ol 'fireplace oven'. I think it would look great as a corner fireplace like this: http://www.ethanolfireplaceshop.com/corner-fireplace-designs
