If you’re into quirky, this is the place for you. It’ll take you a while to appreciate all the objets d’art up scattered around this suddenly hip bar, which you’ll do while sipping mixed drinks and beers and listening to jazz bands. A slim, high-ceilinged, stylish cafe with a wide assortment of kitschy, campy knickknacks and furniture. Owner Peter Van Kleef has never been to bartending school, but knows the importance of fresh fruit to make a quality Greyhound. The walls boast the largest collection of original Van Kleefs in the world, excepting the large painting in the front depicting important figures (including Jerry Brown, Frida Kahlo, and the Dalai Lama) enjoying a drink together (which Peter bought for $200 and painted the characters into). Live music, mainly jazz, most nights. Closed Sunday, cover $5 Thu.-Sat. Always room to dance. Open daily 4 p.m.-2 a.m.

Hours: Daily 4pm-2am

Re: “

Enjoy an evening of eclectic sounds inspired by the vast musical soul of Brazil, and Latin America intermingled with indigenous African sounds. Great local musicians will be joining Latin Vocalist Ana Nitmar.

Ana Nitmar is an artist who delivers a bright and clear interpretation. Her sweet sounding voice and elegant performance has dazzled audiences at various venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has had the pleasure to record and perform with renowned master musicians.

This time, she will share the stage with Carlos Oliveira, a guitarist, composer and arranger who showcases a variety of Brazilian music styles; Micha Patri who is regarded as one of the most versatile drummers in the Bay Area and is noted for his intensity and emotional fire; and Jim Shearer, an outstanding Jazz and Bossa Nova upright bass player.

Ana Nitmar is a singer increasingly active on the SF Bay Area music scene, her first CD, Forest in Spring, was released on summer 2007. This is a recording in which Ana Nitmar puts her vocal instrument to delightful use by singing in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian. The songs on Forest in Spring create an intriguing mix of styles and feels. Ana Nitmar artfully displays her musical skills and infectious joie de vivre on Forest in Spring. She infuses the CD with a triumphantly joyful spirit, inspired by the grand diversity of color and life contained in the tropical rain forests of her homeland Guatemala. Indeed it is the rain forest itself from which Ana Nitmar derives a great deal of her artistic inspiration.
Ana is now poised to bring her many talents to a much wider audience; she is an effervescent singer on the Latin jazz/World music stage
