.Best Yoga for Kids In the mind’s eye, downward-facing toddlers

Yogalayam

Yoga isn’t just for big people, but there’s a certain quality an instructor needs to keep kids interested in yoga. Yoga teacher Saraswathi Devi has an amazing way with children, and that, more than anything, is what makes classes at Berkeley’s Yogalayam so special. The space isn’t fancy — there aren’t all the bells and whistles that go along with many of the East Bay’s yoga centers. But classes with Saraswathi are magical for both parents and children. From moving through poses to chanting, singing, and massaging, children and their parents get a much-needed moment to slow down and make meaningful connections with one another. Without saying as much, Saraswathi reminds her students to savor their time together. Yogalayam offers several kids’ yoga classes each week, by age group. There are also pre- and postnatal classes and a parent/toddler class, which offers help with the tots so that the moms can practice yoga.
