.Best Winery: Divinest fine wines

Blacksmith Cellars

One of our smaller regional wineries, Blacksmith Cellars is also one of our finest. During his stint as oenologist for JC Cellars and assistant winemaker at Dashe, Matt Smith founded Blacksmith and hasn’t looked back. His first vintage came out in 2003, an award-winning 2001 Alexander Valley Cabernet. Smith participated in every aspect of its production: tending and selecting the grapes, pressing, barreling, and bottling. The personal care that went into that very first wine can be seen in everything the winery does, including its comfortable and accessible tastings. Blacksmith currently offers five varietals: two editions of Alexander Valley Cabernet, an Adamantine, a Syrah, and a Monterey Chenin Blanc, all of them exquisite. The wines can be found at retailers throughout the Bay Area. Visit the Web site for details of upcoming events and tastings or to sign up for Blacksmith’s wine club.
