.Best Place to Meditate: An om-base location for yin-yang meditation

Seaplane Lagoon

When most of us think about places to meditate, a former military base doesn’t immediately spring to mind. The Navy’s departure from Alameda in 1995, however, left us with plenty of room to sit and contemplate. From the front entrance of the former Naval Air Station, head straight in and around the warplane to the stop sign. From there, you have two choices. Turn left on Ferry Point and immediately park next to the water if you want a great drive-in meditation spot. Turn off your car and turn on your mind. Ommm. Even better is to turn right, take an immediate left on Tower Street, and turn left where it ends. Ignore the stern signs as remnants of the past and drive past the Rosenblum winery warehouse all the way to the end. There you can sit in a completely deserted spot. In either place you can meditate on the best of humanity (the San Francisco skyline), the worst (the warships) … or simply watch the sky, sun, wind, water, and wildlife.
