.Best Parenting Listserv

Berkeley Parents Network

If you have a baby, are about to have a baby, or are thinking about having a baby, you’ve probably heard of the Berkeley Parents Network. It’s basically a listserv for all things related to your bundle of joy, and more. It’s still dominated by UC Berkeley students and alum, but it’s a no-brainer to sign yourself up for this list for the latest advice on how to get your toddler to stop biting or the best cloth diaper service around the Bay Area. The lists are no-frills and often lengthy. There’s a list for selling stuff, advice, childcare, preschools or camps, and more. The “Marketplace” listserv is one of the most popular, because that’s where you’ll find deals on mostly baby gear, though you can sell or give away other stuff too. The deals here are more ample and often better than what you’d find on Craigslist. The childcare and advice lists also are handy — members can pose questions for the whole list (how to get my baby to sleep through the night) and get a wide range of advice from the veteran parents. Parents from all over the East Bay and San Francisco have signed up for these lists, and they’re all free.
