There’s something refreshing about a drinking establishment that goes all out on its sign, a nod to the days when no-nonsense proprietors made damn sure they used easy-to-read typography and iconic images to ensure that everyone knew what went on inside. That is what’s so great about the neon sign at Baggy’s By the Lake. The eye-catching emblem is a light-studded rectangular marquee dressed up with neon. The Baggy’s name is wrought in distinct, loopy script and paired with an upright, undersized martini glass. This neon is then sandwiched between upper and lower borders of white lights. The combination is enough to give any barfly reason for entry. And this Eastlake dive bar, by the way, has it all — a daily happy hour, VIP cards, a Western motif, stiff well drinks, cheap beer, a jukebox, friendly barkeeps. Locals love it because Baggy’s is so conveniently located within crawling distance of their cribs. Parkway Theater fans flock to it for a little pre-movie nip or post-film nightcap.
