It takes wisdom and patience to be a good teacher, but it takes a special kind of person to teach a bunch of hyper kids martial arts. If Pat Morita were still alive, he would totally agree. The parents who enroll their budding lil’ warriors in Ken Cober’s Kojosho karate class want them to learn discipline and a graceful, centuries-old martial art form based on learning animal forms. The kids like the part where the always good-natured Cober lets them make a “Maze of Death” out of the mats. And even better is practicing their new moves — what kid wouldn’t want to pounce like a big tiger on their teacher? Classes are held yearlong on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Kids seven and up are welcome.
