Bill's Casino Lake Tahoe

We know, we know, Bill’s is not in California. But, it’s just across the state line in South Lake Tahoe, and California’s American Indian-run casinos, as fabulous as they are, just ain’t old school. Bill’s, on the other hand, drips of yesteryear, a time when you could sit down, do some serious gambling, and then walk away without a hole in your wallet. A favorite of locals, it’s one of the few places anywhere that you can still find $5 blackjack tables on a Friday or Saturday night. In fact, everything is cheap. Beers and well drinks are just $2 and you can even snag a hot dog for $1.50 — a fraction of what it costs these days at the average ballpark. Even the waitresses in their white blouses, plaid miniskirts, and white knee socks, are old school. But here’s one thing that isn’t retro: Bill’s, which is named after Bill Harrah and is connected to the next door Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Casino and Hotel, is the only gambling joint in town that’s put the kibosh on smoking. That’s okay; we don’t miss some things.
