The Cycles of Change/Alameda Point Collaborative Bike Shop is not just a place to buy and learn to fix used bicycles, it’s a vehicle for social change. Youth program Cycles of Change hooked up with APC, a housing provider for families getting back on their feet for this project, which was backed by a recycling grant from StopWaste.org. Among other things, the shop sells refurbished bikes and trains kids in cycle repair. In exchange for a little elbow grease, they get to be proud owners of two-wheelers that they’ve fixed up themselves. For inquiries, programs, volunteer opportunities, or to donate a bike, visit the shop during its public hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m.-4 p.m.).
