Sweet Tomatoes

When you think about all-you-can-eat buffets, you usually think slabs of ham or meatloaf excreting beads of fat under heat lamps. But at Pleasant Hill’s Sweet Tomatoes, the fare is considerably different. Specializing in pasta and soups, Sweet Tomatoes offers a range of healthier alternatives to the usual artery-cloggers. The salad options include items such as “won ton chicken happiness,” putting an adorably Pacific Rim spin on a Middle America tradition. And while Sweet Tomatoes offers some fairly standard regulars like Yankee clam chowder, you can find a few more slightly exotic items, such as El Paso lime chicken soup or pesto pasta. Okay, maybe you’re not going to find the most innovative menu in the world, but remember: this is all-you-can-eat we’re talking about. When you can go to town like this, who cares? And the desserts are old-fashioned buffet all the way; they’ve got butterscotch pudding, for God’s sake. Who hasn’t, at one point, wanted to eat all the butterscotch pudding you could?
