.1:37 a.m. Saturday: Best Place to Devour Meat Late at Night

Koryo Wooden Charcoal BBQ

Sometimes, nothing will do you quite right like a cold beer and slab of meat. For all you carnivores who find yourself hankering for some protein in the wee hours, get on over to Koryo Wooden Charcoal BBQ. Why bother with late-night fast-food drive-thru and beer from a six-pack when you can have a satisfying meal of Korean barbecue? Oakland’s Korean BBQ joints surpass the ones on the other side of the bay, and they’re often open late. Koryo and its sister establishment next door, Koryo Sushi, are open till 3:00 a.m. And if you arrive by midnight, you can do your own grilling. One room in the restaurant is outfitted with electric vents over the tables. The wait staff will bring you hot coals, tongs, and plates of thinly sliced and deeply marinated bulgogi (sliced beef), kalbi (beef ribs), spicy pork, and chicken. You’ll also get some fresh lettuce to wrap the meat in and a table-top covered in small stainless steel bowls with the requisite side dishes of kimchi and the like. It’s no fun to cart around so many armloads of dishes, so don’t forget to tip your waitstaff well.
