.11:47 a.m. Monday: Best Barbecued Beef

Flint's BBQ

With so many choices for great barbecue in the East Bay, a joint really has to specialize to stand out. Flint’s stands out for its thick-sliced beef, which is juicy, smoky, and flavorful, with not too much fat or gristle. A sliced-beef sandwich will set you back $7.50, while a beef slab rings up at just $17. The sauce comes in mild, medium, and hot, but hot is the best with lots of spicy tang and not too much sweetness. In the evening, parking is a pain because La Peña and the Starry Plough are nearby, so go for lunch instead. Of course, if you’re in the neighborhood for entertainment, Flint’s is definitely convenient. Take-out only.
