If you missed this on the Express' website this week, here's a link to samples from some of the bands performing at the party:
Just two years removed from her first hoopdancing lesson, Nicole Wong has gone on to form Berkeley's Cherry Hoops, which offers fun Hoopdance Classes to newbies and experienced hoopers throughout the Bay Area. Catch her at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 near the DJ Stage. For more details, visit Cherry Hoops at www.cherryhoops.com.
YAKfilms and thePEOPLE are hosting a special ALL STYLES DANCE BATTLE. This dance battle will bring together the Bay Area's best dancers in Breaking, Popping, Locking, House and Turf styles to compete for the Best of the East Bay title.
YAKfilms is a media company that specializes in dance documentation in the Bay Area and worldwide. Started in East Oakland in 2008 as an organic way to capture street dance styles like TURF dancing, YAKfilms is now emerging as a leading image maker for dancers and dance events worldwide. http://www.YAKfilms.com
thePeople started in November 2007 when some djs and music lovers realized a shared concern that the East Bay was overlooked as a taste making force. Oakland was an obvious place to create a gathering focused on creative community building through art and culture. Resident djs Cecil, Cali, and Be Brown drop forward looking soulful tracks from across a spectrum of genres aimed at providing a space for dancers and music lovers of all sorts. http://thePEOPLEoakland.com
Today is officially ONE WEEK (insert Barenaked Ladies quip here) until the Best of the East Bay Party! August 6 is creeping like a jungle cat, and Jack London Square is the wounded gazelle.
So, with just a couple band spotlights to go I bring you this entry on The Stone Foxes. I had a chance to see these boys play a couple weeks ago in SF, and they are just great. A terrific contemporary blues-rock sound, amazing energy, all that. Not to be missed; the official stuff is below the jump:
Fun fact: more people road their bike to last year's Best of the East Bay Party than any other event in the East Bay. Yep, our readers rule the school.
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition has been in boot camp training for months, preparing for the 2010 party. They are in prime condition, ready to offer you free parking for the night. And we highly recommend that folks bike, walk, bus, train, or skydive into the event verses driving. Parking is limited, so save yourself some headache.
Bike Valet Parking is on Franklin Street (in front of Kincaid's Restaurant) at the waterfront. Entrance is at Embarcadero and Franklin Street.
While at the event, look for the Best of the East Bay Party "BARS" when you're thirsty. All proceeds from the bars (including the non-alcoholic options) benefit OneCalifornia Foundation, an Oakland-based nonprofit that supports the East Bay community through programs and initiatives to help eliminate discrimination, encourage affordable housing, alleviate economic distress, stimulate community development and increase financial literacy. They are community-building rock stars worthy of a drink or two.

As a fairly last-minute addition to the Best of the East Bay Party 2010 (only 9 days to go, after all), I am really excited to officially add the East Bay Fencers Gym! These professional sword fighters (not necessarily professional or sword fighters, but whatevs) are going to stage an exhibition and mini-tournament, almost dead center of the party.
They will be attacking each other with swords from around 5:30 to 8 p.m. Check them out in the grassy area between Miss Pearl's and Scott's at the end of Broadway. Peruse the official info below.
The Best of the East Bay Party is only a week away! This means we only have a few artists left to feature before the main event; lucky for us, they bring a punch worthy of the pre-party hustle currently infusing the East Bay Express office.
Today I bring you Bang Data, a real hybrid group that pulls together elements of traditional Latin pop, heavy metal and hip hop. It's an amazing concoction, and it is an excellent reflection of what the Best of the East Bay Party should be: a fusion of all things great about the East Bay. Below you find the official release, and you can also read Express staffer Rachel Swan's review of Bang Data here.
