Berkeley Art Museum Moving Downtown After All

The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive is moving to downtown Berkeley after all, and will occupy the former UC Printing Plant, the Chron reports. UC Berkeley had wanted to knock down the 70-year-old printing plant and replace it with a new museum, but fell well-short in its fundraising efforts.

Although the museum’s new home will be smaller than its current digs on the southside of campus, the printing plant's proximity to BART and downtown convinced officials to make the move. Campus officials, however, have not revealed how much the move will cost, nor how much the university will have to spend to renovate and seismically upgrade the printing plant.
