Injex, a Hayward-based supplier for NUMMI, plans to lay off 387 workers, and might close completely next year, when the Fremont auto plant shuts down, according to the CoCo Times. Some industry watchers predict that the NUMMI closure will ultimately result in the loss of 40,000 to 50,000 jobs in California. About 4,700 NUMMI employees will be out of work when the plant closes April 1. Toyota decided to close the plant after its partner, General Motors, went into bankruptcy.
