Bay Area Dems Oppose Obama War Plan

Bay Area Congressional leaders aren’t happy about President Obama’s decision to greatly escalate the war in Afghanistan. According to the Trib, Congresswoman Barbara Lee of Oakland says the president’s decision to add 30,000 more US troops is the “wrong call.” Congressman Pete Stark of Fremont also is against the massive troop surge, which will increase the US presence in Afghanistan by nearly 50 percent. Fellow East Bay Congressmen John Garamendi and George Miller also are expressing serious doubts about the plan.

The president’s decision, in fact, may be the most unpopular of his short presidential tenure, especially among liberals and progressives, and threatens to further fracture the Democratic Party, as more and more members of its base become increasingly disenchanted with him.
