The Chronicle comes up with a doozy of a story: the rotten economy has left everyone depressed and anxious. Gee, ya think? And people who are already prone to anxiety are really going to get crazy. UC Berkeley public health professor Ralph Catalano has been studying the effects of lousy economies for 30 years, and he says people who lose their jobs are going to drink a lot and hit members of their families. Catalano and other recommend volunteering to give yourself a sense of self-worth, exercising, and taking really deep breaths to circulate more oxygen in your brain. We can't argue with that, we guess.
