.No More McAfee Coliseum

McAfee Inc. has decided not to renew its naming lease for the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, which means we won’t be calling the massive football-baseball hybrid McAfee Coliseum anymore. And Oakland and Alameda County won’t be getting the $1.1 million a year the company paid for the privilege, so there’s that, too. Coliseum Authority officials are shopping around for a new sponsor to slap its name on the facility, just in time for the economy to tank and the Athletics to leave, significantly lessening the brand’s value. According to the Trib, naming rights for the new Mets stadium were reportedly worth $20 million a year; it’s fair to say Oakland won’t be demanding those kinds of numbers.
