Unless you've been hiding under a rock, perhaps you've heard about our little soiree this evening? In addition to music, art, dance, films, food, booze, and other assorted entertainment, our Best of the East Bay party also features local vendors, which means that while you sip cocktails, take in the sounds and sights, you can also shop. Watch, Shop, & Sell
Online retailers know that in order to earn your dollars, they've got to give you as much information as possible about the product. Many online boutiques not only give detailed fit guides and show clothes and shoes in multiple poses and angles, some even have videos of models strutting down the runway, cause really, how are you to know what you're getting? Well, a new web site is taking it to another level. ShopFlick.com combines fashion television with ways to buy what you're seeing. Several Bay Area designers are featured on the site, including Porcelynne Lingerie designer Jennifer Lynne giving you a tour of her studio and explaining her philosophy behind her line. Still getting started but very cool. Check it out.
Speaking of Online
A few cool local fashion blogs to alert you to: SF Indie Fashion (featuring more events than you could possibly attend, though most in SF) and Fashion Forward East Bay, which we awarded Best local topic blogger. Also check out our own Sartorialist, Fashionist (who knew the Alameda Antique Fair was the most fashionable place in the East Bay?) The Bay's coming up!
Renegade Craft Fair
If you're a fan of ReadyMade, Etsy, et al, you'll want to drop everything and head to Fort Mason this weekend for the first annual (in SF) Renegade Craft Fair. Check out more than 150 vendors (many local), plus circus punk and DJs to entertain you (though you likely won't see or hear anything with all that creative goodness in front of you). Big fun!
When: Saturday & Sunday, July 12-13, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Where: Fort Mason's Festival Pavilion, SF
"Stellar" San Francisco Fashion Awards
Speaking of firsts, the first annual San Francisco Fashion Awards will be held this weekend. Don't miss the opportunity to check out some hot runway action featuring designers Kittinhawk, San Franpsycho, Rat Co., Henry Dion Reyes, Va-Shee Metal, Auberon, James Yoest, Kayo, and Gibbous Fashions.
When: Sunday, July 13, 3 p.m.
Where: Bambuddha Lounge/Phoenix Hotel, 601 Eddy St., San Francisco
How much it'll cost ya: $10 in advance, $15 at the door
Once you've tasted the sale bug, there's really little reason to pay full price. Here's another sale to whet your appetite: 40 percent off sale at Hush this weekend. Those spring looks can last you through October round here.
When: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 11-13
Where: Hush, 1354 N. Main St., Walnut Creek
Another East Bay Sale
Piedmont Ave. boutique McMullen is also getting rid of its spring merchandise, discounted at 30-50 percent off. While you're at it, check out their pre-fall merchandise by DVF, Tibi, Mike & Chris, Milly, and others.
Where: McMullen, 4395 Piedmont Ave., Oakland
Speaking of Sales (Hint)
Don't want to pay even the sale price? Maybe you don't have to. Perhaps it's the recession, but I recently asked an online retailer to sell me a skirt for cheaper than their listed (sale) price, and they indeed lowered their price by a lot! Don't know if this will work with others, but this may become a habit Got a tip for Buy Curious? Store opening? Sale? Send it to buycurious [at] eastbayexpress [dot] com
