.Library, Children’s Hospital Face Tough Times

In a rather shocking development, Children’s Hospital Oakland laid off 84 docs, nurses, and other workers yesterday, the Chron reports. Some were even escorted off the premises. Meanwhile, employees of the Oakland library system picketed the library headquarters yesterday, calling for better security and a new contract to replace the one that expired on Monday. According to the Trib, a number of violent incidents has occurred at libraries around the city, including an attempted rape of a senior citizen.
