As gas prices near $5 a gallon, food prices soar, and our environment turns to shit (cough, cough), many of us are searching for ways to legitimize our still-present shopping habits. (I will only buy organic cotton; I'm supporting the economy; I'm buying high-quality expensive clothes to reduce the likelihood of them ending up in a landfill; I'm helping decrease aesthetic pollution; I'm making myself happier so I won't have to self-medicate - you get the picture.) No matter what your brand of excuse, this weekend's East Bay events will provide ample opportunity to put them to use - including a massive clothing swap with cheap food & booze, a DIY expo, and a bunch of sales on high-priced clothes you won't want to toss away next season. The Decider will thank you.
Want new clothes but don't have the budget? Check out Homeygrown's bi-annual clothing exchange, Soulstice Swap, at Soundwave Studios this weekend. Five bucks and a bag of your unwanted clothes (wash em first peoples) gets you admission into this huge clothing swap and fashion show. Bring something plain and get it silkscreened live for "hella cheap." Pay another $3-$5 and drink all you want. Nibble on free munchies. Dance to "funky grooves." College students are welcome too (no alc for you though), just bring your ID.
When: Saturday, June 28, 3-10 p.m.
Where: Soundwave Studios, 2200 Wood St., Oakland
How much it'll cost ya: $5 (plus another $3-$5 for drinks)

Where: Stork Club, 2330 Telegraph Ave., Oakland
