Great story by the Chron’s Kevin Fagan today, about a quadriplegic and disabled rights advocate who is travelling to Kurdistan to teach disabled Iraqis how to agitate for wheelchair ramps and other amenities. Berkeley-based Bruce Curtis has already conducted previous trips to Nicaragua and Russia, and has partnered up with a Portland-based group to do the same thing in Iraq, where an estimated 2 million out of the country’s 27 million people are disabled and often spend their entire lives indoors, dependent on their family.
