.UC Eggheads Find Where Oak Plague Started

Those smart fellers at the University of California at Berkeley have figured out where the plague of sudden oak death got started, and it turns out to be Santa Cruz and Mount Tam! The disease has infected millions of trees and killed untold numbers over the last ten years, while scientists scrambled to discover what was happening. Now, according to the Chron, they have determined that a nasty fungus organism rode in on nursery plants shipped to California, and carried by humans to the two ground zero points. Unfortunately, finding a way to fight the disease will still be a challenge, as the pathogen tends to mutate as it sweeps through a new grove.
