Fifty-one percent of Americans said they would not feel comfortable being around a person using marijuana, according to a recent Pew Research poll. Let's hope that half of America stays out of the Bay Area this week, where unabashed enthusiasm for the stoner holiday 4/20 has set in. Snoop Dogg is going to be at The Fillmore in San Francisco Saturday, but — meh. The East Bay offers its own set of 4/20 delights, collected below:
Harborside Health Center in Oakland is selling $150 sungrown ounces on 4/20, and giving away free edibles with purchase, plus free clothing to the first 420 patients. The Oakland dispensary has partnered with District Footwear of Alameda on a 4/20 pop-up shop, which will be selling clothing to raise funds for medical cannabis growing classes for veterans.
Over at the Oaksterdam Student Union (1915 Broadway, Oakland), the university sponsors an open house on 4/20 from 1-9 p.m. with $5 donation for barbecue with dessert potluck beginning at 4 p.m. A sneak peek screening of "420: The Documentary" — including footage of the Oaksterdam protest last April 20, 2012 — will be held at 6:30 p.m. Amy Povah, the director and producer, will introduce the film, a work in progress that is scheduled to be released in two months.
Cafe Van Kleef hosts a 'Brass n' Grass' Celebration with East Bay Brass Band (EB3) at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. They'll be playing mash-ups of nothing but the biggest hits.
New dispensary Blum Oakland will be offering limited 420 Specials on products, vendor samples, free food, raffles, and a live DJ from 1-5 p.m.
Up north, Berkeley Patients Group will celebrate 4/20 from April 18th - 21st with specials like $130 ounces, 10 percent off mix and match purchases of 4 grams or more, and free O.pen vapes with purchase of four cartridges. First 100 patients on 4/20 get an free gram.
BPCC in Berkeley promises "fun surprises" all day Saturday, and CBCB promises a "Patient Appreciation Day" with free gifts, special connoisseur meds, steep discounts, live DJs, educational classes, edible medicine fair, snacks & refreshments.
Don't want to leave the house? Delivery services got you. Playbud Deliveries celebrates its first birthday with a 4/20 sale Wednesday and Thursday, April 17 and 18th. On offer: 15 percent off select concentrates, 20 percent off certain edibles, 15 percent off all flower purchases over $100, and 10 percent off flower sales under $100. Town and County Cooperative is also giving away free 4/20 goodie bags all week, each with a free pipe, grinder and lighter.
Got any more East Bay 4/20 events? Holler in the comments. (Or, just tell us how bad of people we are for enjoying a marijuana holiday. And don't worry, another socially acceptable inebriation day — Cinco De Mayo — is right around the corner.)
