Prop 19's failure to pass was not a gender thing. It mostly wasn't a race thing. And it's not a class thing. According to exit poll data gathered by CNN: it's a little bit of a Tea Party thing. And surely, Democrats, especially young Democrats, failed to support Prop 19 the way they did the rest of the ticket. But the issue cuts across traditional party lines. Cue the Tea Party. Coming out of the voting booth, the likeliest “no” voters on 19 were Republican conservatives who strongly identified with the Tea Party. They were more likely to be over 66, and out of work. The less schooling they had, the harder they broke against the measure, with those who hadn't finished high school voting 60-40 against.
No on 19 voters tended to have voted for McCain, and strongly disapprove of Obama. They were more likely to be angry at government, and consider illegal aliens the most important issue in the country. They tended to want to cut taxes, repeal health care reform, and deport illegal immigrants. They tended to vote for Meg Whitman from the suburbs in the Central Valley and inland California, as well as Southern California.
The Tea Party got neutered in California on election day. But stomping pot was maybe the one thing they and plenty of Democrats could agree upon.
Should Prop 19 have gotten a formal endorsement from Glenn Beck? Isn't the Tea Party funded by rich Libertarians? Aren't rich Libertarians supposed to break for pot?

It's not fair to draw an "once of weed/ounce of alcohol" parallel. An ounce of weed is a couple doses per day for two weeks, where an ounce of alcohol is a mere fraction of a dose.
In my opinion this prop would not change anything besides a $100 dollar fine for having less than an ounce of herb. And as for the growing your own plant rule. You would only be able to grow in a 5x5 plot per property meaning if you live in an apartment complex you would only be able to grow herb in a 5x5 plot with the rest of your complex. Meaning that if your 5x5 foot plot was full (and not getting pinched) You would not be able to enjoy the full fruition of prop 19. If marijuana is legalized it should hold the same standards as alcohol. Do you get arrested if you have more than a ounce of alcohol in your house or in your possession? NO you don't. But here is a question for all you no on 19 supporters. Have you ever heard of a person smoking pot and beating their wife? How many stories have you heard about a person smoking pot and smashing into a car head on killing multiple family members? How many people do you see who have lost their home, wife, children, or raped somebody from smoking pot? I'm sure there are cases out there but far less than alcohol related instances of these consequences. Wake up people we consume alcohol and tobacco like they are vitamins but, discriminate pot like it is a virus. Pot is illegal because hippies smoked pot and hippies saw behind all the BULLS&!T our failing government said would make us prosper.
Also to add on to what the exit polls won't show you are the drug cartel's influence on the votes along with local growers and dealers looking to continue making profit.
If you looked at the exit polls you'll see it was an AGE thing.. where an overwhelming number of people 65 and older voted against it. Once that generation dies off then marijuana will become legal. That is a fact. Political affiliations has nothing to do with the outcome. Cover the story better.
