A sociological & cultural Epidemic of Revolutionary Proportions
It is Not easy for any government to attempt to withdraw or reverse an established and excepted habit in the community, in this country and around the world. It is NOT difficult however to cease to prescribe a therapeutic agent nor is it hard to withdraw a license to sell &/or manufacture a controlled substance. Rescheduling this product would have corresponding oversight & regulations would inevitably limit illicit use abuse by school children, and safety standards would rise. Quality Control (as apposed to none at all) would increase the safety of the product. Limiting unsafe pesticides and proper disclosure of agricultural practices, as in the wine industry.
There is detailed international evidence from scientific research & medical trials that cannabis, as defined by the U.S. Surgeon General as "the Safest Drug known to mankind." Cannabis use poses no health or safety risk to the people of the community."
The current state of illegality has mirrored the Gangsterism of the 1920, prior to the end of prohibition. As with any Product demanded by the public in large quantity its prohibition has proven to increase the amount of funds available to criminal elements threw non-taxation & non-regulation of the product. Hence the reasoning not to make tobacco illegal even though the scientific and medical communities do NOT support the use of tobacco, and all of its products. Tobacco is considered unsafe, but non-taxation and non-regulation is NOT in the public's "best interest."
Today due to the current cultural acceptance of Cannabis {Marijuana} regulation and Taxation is needed in the best interest of the public to avoid, if not established, gangsterism in American society and in the cannabis industry. Threw government regulations on Alcohol illegal production has been reduced by over 99% since the end of prohibition. To go on without regulation will multiply the growing situation at hand. Politically its OUR responsibility to due what is best for public interest regardless of our personal like or dislike for the product being sold.
