The first-ever High Times San Francisco Medical Cannabis Cup drew long lines and packed crowds over the weekend, as local dispensaries competed for the prize of the best product. Roughly nine expert judges rated the best Sativa, Indica, Concetrates (hash), and Edibles, then awarded top prizes Sunday night. The winner: "God's Pussy" by the dispensary GreanBicycles in the Sativa category and the "Cali Gold" strain from Mr. Natural Inc. Also of note: South Africa's legendary "Durban Poison," which we covered, took third. All the winners and more news after the jump.

— New York's Mayor Bloomberg had the gall to talk smack about bud in the Big Apple the same week Ted Koppel's son was found to have died in New York of readily available alcohol, prescription drugs, and cocaine laced with Levamisole. Good thing he stayed away from weed.

— Boing Boing posts on a new "hydroponics lifestyle" magazine Rosebud in San Francisco, which shockingly doesn't treat people who recreationaly smoke cannabis like they are morons. [via The Bay Citizen]

"Indeed, rather than fat bud close-ups, the Bay Area-based magazine offers travel features, extreme sports, actor profiles, buxom ladies and other airport newsstand staples, as well as a few technical articles on seed selection and better yields. As Rosebud sees it, marijuana growers and users may be central to their readership, but their non-pot interests jibe perfectly with a lifestyle magazine. Indeed, Straumietis says the magazine is just the first arm of a growing media division that will soon include a mobile channel, a partnership with GoTV and possibly even a TV series."

— The war on drugs is really a war on sex waged by joyless prudes, new study finds and Cannabis Culture reports. [via Science A Go Go]

"If you were to measure people's political ideology, religiosity and personality characteristics, you can predict to some degree how people feel about recreational drugs. But if, instead, you just measure how people feel about casual sex, and ignore the abstract items, the predictions about people's views on drugs in fact become quite a bit better."

— And Haaretz reports on an Israeli drought that's sending local bud price sky high. That's instant karma, blockaders.
