Watch: New Videos From Yeah Yeah Yeahs, M.I.A, The Uncluded, Die Antwoord, Adam Goldberg

If you're like me, then you’ve spent too much of the past few days staring at Miley Cyrus’ music video for “We Can't Stop”— which just broke VEVO’s record for the most-viewed video in 24 hours — and are faced with an existential crisis caused by the experience of hating something so much that you can’t stop watching it. What is she doing? What am I doing? What is LIFE? So many questions, indeed.

Ellen recommended a critique of the video that might offer some rational, soothing insight. But my prescription is this list of new music videos that will snap you out of that hopeless, twerk-induced coma. Don’t believe what Miley tells you. We CAN stop.

Of Course There's a UC Berkeley Gangnam Style Video

by Kathleen Richards
Tue, Sep 18, 2012 at 5:16 PM

Some UC Berkeley students made this fairly slick "UC Berkeley Style" video as a submission to the Myx TV (that's the Asian-American channel) Gangnam Style Parody contest. (ICYMI, "Gangnam Style" is the viral song/video by South Korean artist PSY that skewers materialistic culture in the Gangnam district of Seoul.) What is Berkeley style? "At the beginning of semester, a guy who was just as fashionable as you were/Nonetheless, a week later, a guy who puts on his worn-out sweatshirts and flip flops." Yeah, that sounds about right.

Sleep played at the Fox Theater on Tuesday night, along with Oxbow and Kowloon Walled City (in case you were wondering what that low-frequency drone emanating from downtown Oakland was). Here are some photos from the night, courtesy of Raymond Ahner.

Photos: Meshuggah at The Fillmore, 5/6

Note: I have never claimed to be the world's greatest concert photographer. Or a concert photographer — period. Nonetheless, here are pics from Sunday night's Meshuggah show at The Fillmore. Rather than battling the other photogs (and those ubiquitous crowd-surfers) in the photo pit, I chose a higher, safer vantage point. So yes, they're all from the same angle. But hey, cool lighting!

Lil B Addresses the "Grandma Earrings" Diss

by Rachel Swan
Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 1:58 PM

Lil B's sartorial choices have raised more than a few eyebrows in the past, but none earned quite as much attention as the grandma earrings he rocked in the video for "Got the Mack Loaded," redubbed "Lil B Shows Off Grandma Earrings" on YouTube. Many critics, including this one, couldn't help but jeer at the rapper's sparkly costume jewelry, although most listeners agreed that, in every other sense, "Got the Mack" is a pretty gritty rap song.

New Comedy Sketch from Two Trick Pony: Games People Play

by Rachel Swan
Tue, Jan 24, 2012 at 2:05 PM

Two of our favorite local sketch artists, Scott McCabe and Tory Stanton of Two Trick Pony Productions, just released a new video skit to follow up on their Odd Couple-style web series, Copy and Pastry. This one, called "Games People Play," includes a cameo from Impact Theatre actress Maria Giere, plus a few sprinkled-in references to the board game mystery movie Clue. We're impressed:

Drake, Lil' Wayne Do It for the Bay, or Something

by Will Butler
Thu, Dec 22, 2011 at 12:40 AM

Remember that video that Drake was filming around these parts a few weeks ago? Well "The Motto" clip arrived via interweb late last night, and, except for a poignant intro from Mac Dre's mother, it's pretty much what you'd expect. Drake drives around some bridges and stands around with FAB and E-40, to prove that he did, in fact, take a little Bay field trip for the weekend. Meanwhile Tunechi and Tyga sit alone in a parking lot in SOMA. And Amoeba Music is probably pretty happy. Also, green Uggs.
