Pay reverence to Art Murmur's roots as a gallery walk: Go out tonight, get tipsy, and buy art. Then stumble into a new First Friday tradition and catch some live music. There's something to satisfy everyone's taste:

Hip-hop

There are two types of people: Those who think Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" with its repeated vocal sample of boy-boy-oh-boy is a work of art and those who think it's incredibly annoying. If you're in the former camp (slowly raises hand), check out the producer responsible for those beats (and Jay-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls") — NYC's Just Blaze — at The New Parish, 9 p.m. $12, $15. — Whitney Phaneuf

Hipster

When San Francisco's Maus Haus first got started, with its sea-sides EP, the band was danceable synth rock at its most cheeky. It ran headlong into funky basslines and unabashedly catchy hooks, while retaining a softer, more artsy side with wispy vocals and distortion a la Sonic Youth. In Maus Haus' most recent release, Light Noise, the band displays a more mature, but no less interesting, sound, despite its new embrace of more straightforward rock. Don't miss this free show with fellow synth-lovers White Cloud, Lenz, and Steel Cranes at The Uptown, 9 p.m. Free. — Lenika Cruz

Four mysterious, experimental beatmakers — ages, ahnnu, DTCPU, and Mndsgn, most of whom appear to live in Los Angeles — will bring their trippy, primarily-instrumental soundscapes to The Den, 9 p.m. $5. — W.P.

Hippie

Centered around the tinny sound of bronze gongs from Indonesia called Gamelan, Oakland's Gamelan X incorporates strings, synthesizers, and percussion from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East into its modern world music, headlining Awaken Cafe's show with beatboxer/vocalist Sam Rogers and chamber music outfit Classical Revolution, 8 p.m. Free. — W.P.

Dorm rock

Owing much to My Morning Jacket and Wilco, San Francisco's Mahgeetah churns out rock jams for sensitive boys, supported by the similarly-minded, local alt-county outfit T.V. Mike and the Scarecrows at The Night Light, 9 p.m., $7. — W.P.
