And the East Bay Style Collective will prove it this weekend with its Spring/Summer 2008 fashion show. Leave the Crocs at home and head on over to what will surely be one of the most stylish events in the East Bay this year. Plus, Mission Bazaar in the City and an art reception and sale in Oakland.
You gotta love moms: they wiped our butts, fed our screaming mouths, and still loved us even after we went through our freeloading phase. This weekend, show her what a useful, successful citizen you've become by giving her a little something, whether it's a pair of Viv & Ingrid earrings or a healthful, slow-cooked meal. And cause you need a little rewarding too, check out a fabulous fashion show and spring sale in W.C. Details after the jump.
You've been to plenty of craft fairs, trunk shows, and warehouse sales, but have you been to one that your boyfriend wanted to go to? This weekend, the geeks will descend upon San Mateo for the annual Maker Faire, where, among the cornucopia of the strange, unusual, brilliant, and useless inventions and creations by everyday people or giant corporations, there will be a "MindReadingMartiniMaker."
The Trib has a nifty story about the Oakland "scraperbike" phenomenon, in which kids rig their bikes up in candy colors and make the scene at community events and rap videos. Of course, there's this little thing called a "news hook" that would have been nice, but since the scraperbike affair is generating some Internet buzz, it's still an interesting piece.
More eco-friendly events this weekend, with sustainable sex-toy shopping, a mega plant sale, and dirt-cheap books. Plus, it's time to stock up on spring booties.
Temperatures are supposed to reach the mid-seventies this weekend, which means that in addition to unearthing your spring flocks, there's no excuse not to take head outdoors and hit up one of the many fabulous shopping events happening this weekend whether you're looking for that special end-table to spruce up your living quarters, splurge on an organic pedicure, or trade in your dusted duds for something new (or all of the above). Plus, with Earth Day approaching, get hip to the latest craze, going "blue." What it all means, after the jump ...
With a modest stipend, this Buy Curious gal has learned to stretch her dollar far. But we're still feeling the pinch of the economy, specifically high gas prices and BART parking fees and tickets so much so, that it's almost but not quite deterring us from shopping. But last weekend, after finally unchaining ourselves from the computer, we actually got out of the house, hit the pavement, and ducked into local shops, all for the benefit of you, dear reader. We've got the low-down on what's where, plus a few stylish events for you to hit up this weekend. All after the jump
Ugh, what a week for news! Abandoned, foreclosed-home swimming pools in East Contra Costa County are breeding grounds for West Nile Virus (which isn't going away, and oh, there's no budget this year to keep it in check); nine-year-old kids in Dallas are snorting low-grade heroin called cheese; social security is gonna be broke by 2041, Medicare by 2019; a chunk of ice seven times the size of Manhattan broke off a glacier in Antarctica, never to return; US death toll reaches 4,000 in Iraq; not to mention everyone's upset about the Fed's bailing out Bear Stearns. And the list goes on and on. The good news? At least one wolverine is roaming Tahoe. Sheesh. It's enough to make your head spin! So there's no better time than this weekend to soothe your soul with complimentary mani/pedis, makeovers, and massages not to mention shopping. More fever-reducing news after the jump
The days are longer and the sky bluer, which means it's time to put away your winter blacks and boots. Local boutiques are stocking up on spring looks from Alexander Wang to Rachel Comey to Diane Von Furstenberg. (Plus, there are still a few clearance sales left.) Also, check out a retrospective fashion exhibit at UC Berkeley and find out how to donate your old suits to needy professionals.
You've been working too hard lately. Take a load off this weekend by scoring some major guilt-free deals (books, anyone?) and engaging in a little pampering (moms, we're looking at you). Plus, we've got the scoop on the hottest upcoming Bay Area fashion events. You deserve it!
