Mic Check: Watch Protesters Commandeer a Michele Bachmann Speech

Will Butler —  Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 1:14 PM

Spend any time at an Occupy Oakland GA meeting and you'll see it in action: the reasonably organized and cooperative procedure by which voices are heard and decisions are made. Yelling “mic check” mobilizes Occupiers into a game of political repeat-after-me, uniting the crowd and spreading the speaker’s comments sans amplification. And Occupiers are taking these tactics beyond city streets and courthouse squares.

For one, yesterday in Oakland, protesters interrupted a Lake Merritt press conference, shouting down five city councilmembers who threatened the encampment. In another powerful and hilarious example from yesterday, South Carolina protesters invaded an address by GOP candidate Michelle Bachmann aboard the USS Yorktown. The human megaphone overpowered the event, completely bamboozling the presidential hopeful. She left the stage, returning later to joke, “Don’t you just love the first amendment?” Who will they be interrupting next week?

The left and right rantings have no meaning to us. Both sides are corrupt; therefore, if you would like to still use the double talk of corruption and think it sounds smart or that one can be smug in such perceptions: Remember, we all started out in womb where everything was taken care of for us. None us voluntarily went out of the womb. So for those of you who cling to the days of corruption and lies, remember; the convulsions have started. The corrupt are not being asked to leave. They will be made to leave. We will no longer accept politicians involved in corruption: being a mafia and using police compliance for obedience. For those of you who do not understand this; it is understandable; however, as time goes on and information and videos from the movement are mass consumed, you will either be on the side of corruption or against corruption. What side our you on?

If denying someone a platform in the national media is infringing their free speech - and I'm undecided on that issue - then the vast majority of us have never had our right to free speech respected. All they were doing was levelling the playing field.

I'll bet the two comments below mine were the best.

This shows the violent and totalitarian core at the heart of the radical Left, which talks about free speech but insists on silencing those with whom they disagree: "Free speech for me, but not for thee."
The OWS nihilist hooligans have taken their cue from Princess Pelosi and Hussein Obama, both of whom have praised them. Bachmann has been the most courageous and honorable among in the political class for labeling the OWS crowd for what it is: an organized mob of Communists and other radicals who want something for nothing.

Imagine if the Tea Partiers interrupted a campaign speech by Obummer: the media wouild be screaming "fascism!" A violent, intolerant, mindless minority, just waiting for a demagogic leader -- that is the Occupy movement in a nutshell.

America used to work The people had work. The system worked. Hey, EVEN the Congress used to work...(sometimes). God knows, it was far, far, far from perfect - but at least we all had some share in the struggles AND the rewards. But somewhere along the way, we lost our way. And now we seem to have an economy and a political system that works only for the rich. What they call "trickle down economics"... just leaves most of us out in the cold cold rain. We need to get back to what America was, and what it should be, and what it can be. Occupy Wall Street is no longer just a place called Zuccotti Park - Zuccotti Park is everywhere. You can try to pen us in, you can beat us and arrest us, you can mace and tear-gas us , and you can try to "permit" us to death....but you can't kill an idea. You can't keep down a people’s hopes and dreams for a better life.....a life with dignity and freedom....for us... for our kids. More power to Occupy Wall Street, as it spreads to every town and city - because OWS is us, and for us, and by us. It comes up from the grassroots, and it lifts us up in turn. With OWS America has found it’s voice, and that voice demands fairness and justice. This land IS our land! AND WE WANT IT BACK! ...We want our lives back!... We want our future back! ....So why not take some time, find a quiet place somewhere, and consider this: Each of us has only one brief life...one chance...and many choices. It’s time to choose...and to act. If not now...then when? If not you....then who? You DO have the power my friend....and the choice is yours.
