Mehserle Sentence Reaction in Oakland

Demonstrators are planning to congregate at Oakland City Hall in downtown at 2 p.m., KTVU reports.

Update 2 p.m.: Mayor Ron Dellums and Police Chief Anthony Batts are planning to make a plea for peaceful demonstrations today in the wake of the Mehserle sentencing, KTVU reports.

Update 2:48 p.m.: Chief Batts said the city is mostly "quiet" right now, as he described his department's extensive preparations for possible protests today.

Sue, follow the LA Judicial reactions and deluge LA voters with calls to
express to this judge what you think of his instruction to jury that it
coundn't be premediated murder (why the hell not?) and his then way
too lenient sentence since jury found intentional use of firearm; just
don't wreck Oakland. It's home. L.A. isn't. Sandra A. Smith
