A new poll indicates that suburban soccer moms support a proposal to legalize marijuana in California. The Chron reports that the soccer moms want to legalize cannabis because they figure their children are going to buy it anyway and don’t want them purchasing it from drug dealers.
The new poll is good news for backers of a statewide ballot measure, sponsored by Oakland medical marijuana advocates. Pot legalization measures have failed miserably over the years in other states. California’s proposition would legalize the possession of up to one ounce of pot and then allow public agencies to tax the proceeds. The measure is expected to generate $1.4 billion in annual revenues for the state.

an overwhelmingly large majority of americans support this idea. This country is supposed to be run by its people. let us decide. The FACTS about marijuana are undeniable. It is a great idea to legalize marijuana. What would happen if Government illegalized cigarettes and alcohol, our country would collapse, millions would be jobless, crime would sky rocket, government would be broke, and the list goes on. Consider the opposite to legalize marijuana. I am against legalizing harmful and addictive drugs. marijuana is not one of them-FACT.
I think Anna is making an ignorant argument that is not thought out-
these moms have realized that no matter how good children are raised, these days it is impossible to keep them away from illegal drugs which are being sold at every school across America. These mothers have two choices: allow their kids to buy these drugs from criminals and fall into a dangerous and criminal life, or they could be forced to wait until their 21 to buy drugs. And if they choose to still want to use pot, they can at least get it from an older sibling or friend who will buy it for them, and not a gun-carrying drug dealer
The legal age of purchase will be 21, just as it is for alcohol. Mothers will be just as soon to buy marijuana for their children as they would a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey.
i think it would be illegal to purchase pot if you are under 18,
would the moms purchase for the kids?
These Moms show great sense in wanting to legalize cannabis so that, if their children are smoking pot anyway, they can be sure that the bud is not laced with anything such as Raid, powdered glass, etc. and is government qualified.
Remember your history lessons from back when alcohol was illegal not too long ago? People were making dangerous alcohols in their bath tubs! This is essentially what is happening now with marijuana. Legalize!
This article makes very good common sense. The end of prohibition in the 30's was such a success not just because of the legalization of alcohol but rather the regulation and taxation of alcohol. Consumers became safer. They could determine the proof (% of alcohol) they wanted. They knew what they were buying. The regulated alcohol did not contain lead or other contaminates because the Government regulated the distilling process. The bootleggers where instantly out of business and the government spent less money policing and more time collecting all the new tax dollars created. Answer this! How many convenience store clerks hand out free samples of beer? How many drug dealers check ID’s before the sale? Teenagers can buy a bag of weed easier than they can buy a six pack of beer. America needs to legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis.
Grow a spine, moms. Be role models. Don';t settle for drug addicted pre-teens, moms - because you indifferently don't want to fight for their RIGHT to be protected and nurtured in a non-drug encouraging world.
What a sorry example of supposed mothering this is. Anecdotal nonsence. No numbers of actual moms are given. Where they live. Where they choose to send their kids for education or mentoring or whatever.
One can only imagine these moms are rehab graduates themselves or whatever. Or are actively engaged in illicit and illegal drug use themselves - and just wanna have fun with their kids, instead of mentor to them about healthy and life affirming choices.
This is garbage. Big time. What a sorry attempt at "justification" for making something illegal all of the sudden not so....
